וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה וְאֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֖ן לֵאמֹֽר׃
7:8
The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,

And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying:
ז׳:ח׳
וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְמשֶׁה וּלְאַהֲרֹן לְמֵימָר:
ז׳:ט׳
כִּי֩ יְדַבֵּ֨ר אֲלֵכֶ֤ם פַּרְעֹה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר תְּנ֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם מוֹפֵ֑ת וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֗ן קַ֧ח אֶֽת־מַטְּךָ֛ וְהַשְׁלֵ֥ךְ לִפְנֵֽי־פַרְעֹ֖ה יְהִ֥י לְתַנִּֽין׃
7:9
“When Pharaoh speaks to you and says, ‘Produce your marvel,’ you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it down before Pharaoh.’ It shall turn into a serpent.”
7:9
’When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying: Show a wonder for you; then thou shalt say unto Aaron: Take thy rod, and cast it down before Pharaoh, that it become a serpent.’
ז׳:ט׳
אֲרֵי יְמַלֵּל לְוָתְכוֹן פַּרְעֹה לְמֵימַר הָבוּ לְכוֹן אָתָא וְתֵימַר לְאַהֲרֹן סַב יָת חוּטְרָךְ וּרְמֵי קֳדָם פַּרְעֹה יְהִי לְתַנִּינָא:
מופת. אוֹת, לְהוֹדִיעַ שֶׁיֵּשׁ צְרוֹךְ בְּמִי שֶׁשּׁוֹלֵחַ אֶתְכֶם:
ז׳:י׳
וַיָּבֹ֨א מֹשֶׁ֤ה וְאַהֲרֹן֙ אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֔ה וַיַּ֣עַשׂוּ כֵ֔ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר צִוָּ֣ה יְהוָ֑ה וַיַּשְׁלֵ֨ךְ אַהֲרֹ֜ן אֶת־מַטֵּ֗הוּ לִפְנֵ֥י פַרְעֹ֛ה וְלִפְנֵ֥י עֲבָדָ֖יו וַיְהִ֥י לְתַנִּֽין׃
7:10
So Moses and Aaron came before Pharaoh and did just as the LORD had commanded: Aaron cast down his rod in the presence of Pharaoh and his courtiers, and it turned into a serpent.

And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so, as the LORD had commanded; and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
ז׳:י׳
וְעַל משֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן לְוָת פַּרְעֹה וַעֲבָדוּ כֵן כְּמָא דְּפַקֵּיד יְיָ וּרְמָא אַהֲרֹן יָת חוּטְרֵיהּ קֳדָם פַּרְעֹה וְקָדָם עַבְדּוֹהִי וַהֲוָה לְתַנִּינָא:

וַיִּקְרָא֙ גַּם־פַּרְעֹ֔ה לַֽחֲכָמִ֖ים וְלַֽמְכַשְּׁפִ֑ים וַיַּֽעֲשׂ֨וּ גַם־הֵ֜ם חַרְטֻמֵּ֥י מִצְרַ֛יִם בְּלַהֲטֵיהֶ֖ם כֵּֽן׃
7:11
Then Pharaoh, for his part, summoned the wise men and the sorcerers; and the Egyptian magicians, in turn, did the same with their spells;

Then Pharaoh also called for the wise men and the sorcerers; and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did in like manner with their secret arts.
ז׳:י"א
וּקְרָא אַף פַּרְעֹה לְחַכִּימַיָּא וּלְחָרָשַׁיָּא וַעֲבָדוּ אַף אִנּוּן חָרָשֵׁי מִצְרַיִם בְּלַחֲשֵׁיהוֹן כֵּן:
בלהטיהם. בְּלַחֲשֵׁיהוֹן; וְאֵין לוֹ דִּמְיוֹן בַּמִּקְרָא; וְיֵשׁ לְדַמּוֹת לוֹ "לַהַט הַחֶרֶב הַמִּתְהַפֶּכֶת" (בראשית ג') – דּוֹמֶה שֶׁהִיא מִתְהַפֶּכֶת עַל יְדֵי לַחַשׁ:
ז׳:י"ב
וַיַּשְׁלִ֙יכוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ מַטֵּ֔הוּ וַיִּהְי֖וּ לְתַנִּינִ֑ם וַיִּבְלַ֥ע מַטֵּֽה־אַהֲרֹ֖ן אֶת־מַטֹּתָֽם׃
7:12
each cast down his rod, and they turned into serpents. But Aaron’s rod swallowed their rods.
7:12
For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents; but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.
ז׳:י"ב
וּרְמוֹ גְּבַר חוּטְרֵיהּ וַהֲווֹ לְתַנִּינַיָּא וּבְלַע חֻטְרָא דְאַהֲרֹן יָת חֻטְרֵיהוֹן:
ויבלע מטה אהרן. מֵאַחַר שֶׁחָזַר וְנַעֲשָׂה מַטֶּה, בָּלַע אֶת כֻּלָּן (שבת צ"ז):

וַיֶּחֱזַק֙ לֵ֣ב פַּרְעֹ֔ה וְלֹ֥א שָׁמַ֖ע אֲלֵהֶ֑ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃ (פ)
7:13
Yet Pharaoh’s heart stiffened and he did not heed them, as the LORD had said.
7:13
And Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken.

וְאִתַּקַּף לִבָּא דְפַרְעֹה וְלָא קַבִּיל מִנְּהוֹן כְּמָא דִּמַלִּיל יְיָ:
ז׳:י"ד
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה כָּבֵ֖ד לֵ֣ב פַּרְעֹ֑ה מֵאֵ֖ן לְשַׁלַּ֥ח הָעָֽם׃
7:14
And the LORD said to Moses, “Pharaoh is stubborn; he refuses to let the people go.
7:14
And the LORD said unto Moses: ‘Pharaoh’s heart is stubborn, he refuseth to let the people go.
ז׳:י"ד
וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְמשֶׁה אִתְיַקַּר (לפרש"י יַקִּיר) לִבָּא דְפַרְעֹה סָרִיב לְשַׁלָּחָא עַמָּא:
כבד. תַּרְגוּמוֹ יַקִּיר וְלֹא אִתְיַקַּר, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁהוּא שֵׁם דָּבָר, כְּמוֹ "כִּי כָבֵד מִמְּךָ הַדָּבָר" (שמות י"ח):
ז׳:ט"ו
לֵ֣ךְ אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֞ה בַּבֹּ֗קֶר הִנֵּה֙ יֹצֵ֣א הַמַּ֔יְמָה וְנִצַּבְתָּ֥ לִקְרָאת֖וֹ עַל־שְׂפַ֣ת הַיְאֹ֑ר וְהַמַּטֶּ֛ה אֲשֶׁר־נֶהְפַּ֥ךְ לְנָחָ֖שׁ תִּקַּ֥ח בְּיָדֶֽךָ׃
7:15
Go to Pharaoh in the morning, as he is coming out to the water, and station yourself before him at the edge of the Nile, taking with you the rod that turned into a snake.

Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river’s brink to meet him; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thy hand.
ז׳:ט"ו
אִזֵּיל לְוָת פַּרְעֹה בְּצַפְרָא הָא נָפֵיק לְמַיָּא וְתִתְעַתַּד לְקַדָּמוּתֵיהּ עַל כֵּיף נַהֲרָא וְחֻטְרָא דְּאִתְהֲפִיךְ לְחִוְיָא תִּסַּב בִּידָךְ:
הנה יצא המימה. לִנְקָבָיו; שֶׁהָיָה עוֹשֶׂה עַצְמוֹ אֱלוֹהַּ וְאוֹמֵר שֶׁאֵינוֹ צָרִיךְ לִנְקָבָיו, וּמַשְׁכִּים וְיוֹצֵא לַנִּילוּס וְעוֹשֶׂה שָׁם צְרָכָיו (תנחומא):
ז׳:ט"ז
וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֵלָ֗יו יְהוָ֞ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י הָעִבְרִים֙ שְׁלָחַ֤נִי אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר שַׁלַּח֙ אֶת־עַמִּ֔י וְיַֽעַבְדֻ֖נִי בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר וְהִנֵּ֥ה לֹא־שָׁמַ֖עְתָּ עַד־כֹּֽה׃
7:16
And say to him, ‘The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you to say, “Let My people go that they may worship Me in the wilderness.” But you have paid no heed until now.
7:16
And thou shalt say unto him: The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, hath sent me unto thee, saying: Let My people go, that they may serve Me in the wilderness; and, behold, hitherto thou hast not hearkened;
ז׳:ט"ז
וְתֵימַר לֵיהּ יְיָ אֱלָהָא דִיהוּדָאֵי שַׁלְּחַנִי לְוָתָךְ לְמֵימַר שַׁלַּח יָת עַמִּי וְיִפְלְחוּן קֳדָמַי בְּמַדְבְּרָא וְהָא לָא קַבֵּילְתָּא עַד כְּעָן:
עד כה. עַד הֵנָּה; וּמִדְרָשׁוֹ: עַד שֶׁתִּשְׁמַע מִמֶּנִּי מַכַּת בְּכוֹרוֹת שֶׁאֶפְתַּח בָּהּ בְּ"כֹה" אָמַר ה' כַּחֲצוֹת הַלַּיְלָה (שמות י״א:ד׳):

כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה בְּזֹ֣את תֵּדַ֔ע כִּ֖י אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֑ה הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֜י מַכֶּ֣ה ׀ בַּמַּטֶּ֣ה אֲשֶׁר־בְּיָדִ֗י עַל־הַמַּ֛יִם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּיְאֹ֖ר וְנֶהֶפְכ֥וּ לְדָֽם׃
7:17
Thus says the LORD, “By this you shall know that I am the LORD.” See, I shall strike the water in the Nile with the rod that is in my hand, and it will be turned into blood;

thus saith the LORD: In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD—behold, I will smite with the rod that is in my hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood.
ז׳:י"ז
כִּדְנַן אֲמַר יְיָ בְּדָא תִדַּע אֲרֵי אֲנָא יְיָ הָא אֲנָא מָחֵי בְּחֻטְרָא דִּי בִידִי עַל מַיָּא דִּי בְנַהֲרָא וְיִתְהַפְּכוּן לִדְמָא:
ונהפכו לדם. לְפִי שֶׁאֵין גְּשָׁמִים יוֹרְדִים בְּמִצְרַיִם וְנִילוּס עוֹלֶה וּמַשְׁקֶה אֶת הָאָרֶץ וּמִצְרַיִם עוֹבְדִים לַנִּילוּס, לְפִיכָךְ הִלְקָה אֶת יִרְאָתָם וְאַחַ"כָּ הִלְקָה אוֹתָם (תנחומא):
ז׳:י"ח
וְהַדָּגָ֧ה אֲשֶׁר־בַּיְאֹ֛ר תָּמ֖וּת וּבָאַ֣שׁ הַיְאֹ֑ר וְנִלְא֣וּ מִצְרַ֔יִם לִשְׁתּ֥וֹת מַ֖יִם מִן־הַיְאֹֽר׃ (ס)
7:18
and the fish in the Nile will die. The Nile will stink so that the Egyptians will find it impossible to drink the water of the Nile.’”
7:18
And the fish that are in the river shall die, and the river shall become foul; and the Egyptians shall loathe to drink water from the river.’
ז׳:י"ח
וְנוּנֵי דִי בְנַהֲרָא תְּמוּת וּסְרִי נַהֲרָא וְיִלְאוּן מִצְרָאֵי לְמִשְׁתֵּי מַיָּא מִן נַהֲרָא:
ונלאו מצרים. לְבַקֵּשׁ רְפוּאָה לְמֵי הַיְאוֹר שֶׁיִּהְיוּ רְאוּיִין לִשְׁתּוֹת:
ז׳:י"ט
וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה אֱמֹ֣ר אֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֡ן קַ֣ח מַטְּךָ֣ וּנְטֵֽה־יָדְךָ֩ עַל־מֵימֵ֨י מִצְרַ֜יִם עַֽל־נַהֲרֹתָ֣ם ׀ עַל־יְאֹרֵיהֶ֣ם וְעַל־אַגְמֵיהֶ֗ם וְעַ֛ל כָּל־מִקְוֵ֥ה מֵימֵיהֶ֖ם וְיִֽהְיוּ־דָ֑ם וְהָ֤יָה דָם֙ בְּכָל־אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם וּבָעֵצִ֖ים וּבָאֲבָנִֽים׃
7:19
And the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron: Take your rod and hold out your arm over the waters of Egypt—its rivers, its canals, its ponds, all its bodies of water—that they may turn to blood; there shall be blood throughout the land of Egypt, even in vessels of wood and stone.”
7:19
And the LORD said unto Moses: ‘Say unto Aaron: Take thy rod, and stretch out thy hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their ponds of water, that they may become blood; and there shall be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’
ז׳:י"ט
וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְמשֶׁה אֱמַר לְאַהֲרֹן טוֹל חֻטְרָךְ וַאֲרֵים יְדָךְ עַל מַיָּא דְמִצְרַיִם עַל נַהֲרֵיהוֹן עַל אֲרִתֵּיהוֹן וְעַל אַגְמֵיהוֹן וְעַל כָּל בֵּית כְּנִישׁוּת מֵימֵיהוֹן וִיהוֹן דְּמָא וִיהֵי דְמָא בְּכָל אַרְעָא דְמִצְרַיִם וּבְמָנֵי אָעָא וּבְמָנֵי אַבְנָא:
אמר אל אהרן. לְפִי שֶׁהֵגֵן הַיְאוֹר עַל מֹשֶׁה כְּשֶׁנִּשְׁלַךְ לְתוֹכוֹ, לְפִיכָךְ לֹא לָקָה עַל יָדוֹ לֹא בַדָּם וְלֹא בַצְפַרְדְּעִים, וְלָקָה עַל יְדֵי אַהֲרֹן (שמות רבה):
נהרתם. הֵם נְהָרוֹת הַמּוֹשְׁכִים, כְּעֵין נְהָרוֹת שֶׁלָּנוּ:
יאריהם. הֵם בְּרֵכוֹת נִגָּרִים, הָעֲשׂוּיוֹת בִּידֵי אָדָם מִשְּׂפַת הַנָּהָר לַשָּׂדוֹת, וְנִילוּס מֵימָיו מִתְבָּרְכִים וְעוֹלֶה דֶּרֶךְ הַיְאוֹרִים וּמַשְׁקֶה הַשָּׂדוֹת:
אגמיהם. קְבוּצַת מַיִם שֶׁאֵינָן נוֹבְעִין וְאֵין מוֹשְׁכִין, אֶלָּא עוֹמְדִין בְּמָקוֹם אֶחָד, וְקוֹרְין לוֹ אשטנ"ק:
בכל ארץ מצרים. אַף בַּמֶּרְחֲצָאוֹת וּבָאַמְבַּטָּאוֹת שֶׁבַּבָּתִּים:
ובעצים ובאבנים. מַיִם שֶׁבִּכְלֵי עֵץ וּבִכְלֵי אֶבֶן:
ז׳:כ׳
וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־כֵן֩ מֹשֶׁ֨ה וְאַהֲרֹ֜ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ צִוָּ֣ה יְהוָ֗ה וַיָּ֤רֶם בַּמַּטֶּה֙ וַיַּ֤ךְ אֶת־הַמַּ֙יִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּיְאֹ֔ר לְעֵינֵ֣י פַרְעֹ֔ה וּלְעֵינֵ֖י עֲבָדָ֑יו וַיֵּהָֽפְכ֛וּ כָּל־הַמַּ֥יִם אֲשֶׁר־בַּיְאֹ֖ר לְדָֽם׃
7:20
Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD commanded: he lifted up the rod and struck the water in the Nile in the sight of Pharaoh and his courtiers, and all the water in the Nile was turned into blood

And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
ז׳:כ׳
וַעֲבָדוּ כֵן משֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן כְּמָא דְּפַקִּיד יְיָ וַאֲרֵים בְּחֻטְרָא וּמְחָא יָת מַיָּא דִּי בְנַהֲרָא לְעֵינֵי פַרְעֹה וּלְעֵינֵי עַבְדּוֹהִי וְאִתְהֲפִיכוּ כָּל מַיָּא דִּי בְנַהֲרָא לִדְמָא:
ז׳:כ"א
וְהַדָּגָ֨ה אֲשֶׁר־בַּיְאֹ֥ר מֵ֙תָה֙ וַיִּבְאַ֣שׁ הַיְאֹ֔ר וְלֹא־יָכְל֣וּ מִצְרַ֔יִם לִשְׁתּ֥וֹת מַ֖יִם מִן־הַיְאֹ֑ר וַיְהִ֥י הַדָּ֖ם בְּכָל־אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃
7:21
and the fish in the Nile died. The Nile stank so that the Egyptians could not drink water from the Nile; and there was blood throughout the land of Egypt.
7:21
And the fish that were in the river died; and the river became foul, and the Egyptians could not drink water from the river; and the blood was throughout all the land of Egypt.
ז׳:כ"א
וְנוּנֵי דִי בְנַהֲרָא מִיתוּ וּסְרִי נַהֲרָא וְלָא יְכִילוּ מִצְרָאֵי לְמִשְׁתֵּי מַיָּא מִן נַהֲרָא וַהֲוָה דְמָא בְּכָל אַרְעָא דְמִצְרָיִם:
ז׳:כ"ב
וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־כֵ֛ן חַרְטֻמֵּ֥י מִצְרַ֖יִם בְּלָטֵיהֶ֑ם וַיֶּחֱזַ֤ק לֵב־פַּרְעֹה֙ וְלֹא־שָׁמַ֣ע אֲלֵהֶ֔ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃
7:22
But when the Egyptian magicians did the same with their spells, Pharaoh’s heart stiffened and he did not heed them—as the LORD had spoken.
7:22
And the magicians of Egypt did in like manner with their secret arts; and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken.
ז׳:כ"ב
וַעֲבָדוּ כֵן חָרָשֵׁי מִצְרַיִם בְּלַחֲשֵׁיהוֹן וְאִתַּקַּף לִבָּא דְפַרְעֹה וְלָא קַבֵּיל מִנְּהוֹן כְּמָא דִּמַלִּיל יְיָ:
בלטיהם. לַחַשׁ שֶׁאוֹמְרִין אוֹתוֹ בַּלָּט וּבַחֲשַׁאי; וְרַבּוֹתֵינוּ אָמְרוּ, "בְּלָטֵיהֶם" מַעֲשֵׂה שֵׁדִים, "בְּלַהֲטֵיהֶם" מַעֲשֵׂה כְשָׁפִים (סנהדרין ס"ז):
ויחזק לב פרעה. לוֹמַר עַל יְדֵי מְכַשְּׁפוּת אַתֶּם עוֹשִׂים כֵּן; "תֶּבֶן אַתֶּם מַכְנִיסִים לְעָפְרַיִם", עִיר שֶׁכֻּלָּהּ תֶּבֶן, אַף אַתֶּם מְבִיאִין מְכַשְּׁפוּת לְמִצְרַיִם שֶׁכֻּלָּהּ כְּשָׁפִים:
ז׳:כ"ג
וַיִּ֣פֶן פַּרְעֹ֔ה וַיָּבֹ֖א אֶל־בֵּית֑וֹ וְלֹא־שָׁ֥ת לִבּ֖וֹ גַּם־לָזֹֽאת׃
7:23
Pharaoh turned and went into his palace, paying no regard even to this.
7:23
And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he lay even this to heart.
ז׳:כ"ג
וְאִתְפְּנִי פַרְעֹה וְעַל לְבֵיתֵיהּ וְלָא שַׁוִּי לִבֵּיהּ אַף לְדָא:
גם לזאת. לְמוֹפֵת הַמַּטֶּה שֶׁנֶּהְפַּךְ לְתַנִּין, וְלֹא לָזֶה שֶׁל דָּם:
ז׳:כ"ד
וַיַּחְפְּר֧וּ כָל־מִצְרַ֛יִם סְבִיבֹ֥ת הַיְאֹ֖ר מַ֣יִם לִשְׁתּ֑וֹת כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יָֽכְלוּ֙ לִשְׁתֹּ֔ת מִמֵּימֵ֖י הַיְאֹֽר׃
7:24
And all the Egyptians had to dig round about the Nile for drinking water, because they could not drink the water of the Nile.
7:24
And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river.
ז׳:כ"ד
וַחֲפָרוּ כָל מִצְרָאֵי סַחֲרָנוּת נַהֲרָא מַיָּא לְמִשְׁתֵּי אֲרֵי לָא יְכִילוּ לְמִשְׁתֵּי מִמַּיָּא דְּנַהֲרָא:
ז׳:כ"ה
וַיִּמָּלֵ֖א שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים אַחֲרֵ֥י הַכּוֹת־יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־הַיְאֹֽר׃ (פ)
7:25
When seven days had passed after the LORD struck the Nile,

And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river.
ז׳:כ"ה
וְאַשְׁלֵם שִׁבְעַת יוֹמִין בָּתַר דִּמְחָא יְיָ יָת נַהֲרָא:
וימלא. מִנְיַן שבעת ימים, שֶׁלֹּא שָׁב הַיְאוֹר לְקַדְמוּתוֹ, שֶׁהָיְתָה הַמַּכָּה מְשַׁמֶּשֶׁת רְבִיעַ חֹדֶשׁ, וג' חֲלָקִים הָיָה מֵעִיד וּמַתְרֶה בָהֶם (תנחומא):
ז׳:כ"ו
וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה בֹּ֖א אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֑ה וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֵלָ֗יו כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה שַׁלַּ֥ח אֶת־עַמִּ֖י וְיַֽעַבְדֻֽנִי׃

the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: Let My people go that they may worship Me.

And the LORD spoke unto Moses: ‘Go in unto Pharaoh, and say unto him: Thus saith the LORD: Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְמשֶׁה עוּל לְוָת פַּרְעֹה וְתֵימַר לֵיהּ כִּדְנַן אֲמַר יְיָ שַׁלַּח יָת עַמִּי וְיִפְלְחוּן קֳדָמָי:
ז׳:כ"ז
וְאִם־מָאֵ֥ן אַתָּ֖ה לְשַׁלֵּ֑חַ הִנֵּ֣ה אָנֹכִ֗י נֹגֵ֛ף אֶת־כָּל־גְּבוּלְךָ֖ בַּֽצְפַרְדְּעִֽים׃
7:27
If you refuse to let them go, then I will plague your whole country with frogs.

And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs.

וְאִם סָרִיב אַתְּ לְשַׁלָּחָא הָא אֲנָא מָחֵי יָת כָּל תְּחוּמָךְ בְּעֻרְדְּעָנַיָּא:
ואם מאן אתה. וְאִם סַרְבָן אַתָּה: מאן. כְּמוֹ מְמָאֵן, מְסָרֵב, אֶלָּא כִּנּוּי הָאָדָם עַל שֵׁם הַמִּפְעָל, כְּמוֹ "שָׁלֵו" (איוב ט"ז), "שָׁקֵט" (שופטים י"ח), "סַר וְזָעֵף" (מלכים א כ'):
נגף את כל גבולך. מַכֶּה, וְכֵן כָּל לְשׁוֹן מַגֵּפָה אֵינוֹ לְשׁוֹן מִיתָה אֶלָּא לְשׁוֹן מַכָּה, וְכֵן "וְנָגְפוּ אִשָּׁה הָרָה" (שמות כ"א), אֵינוֹ לְשׁוֹן מִיתָה, וְכֵן "וּבְטֶרֶם יִתְנַגְּפוּ רַגְלֵיכֶם" (ירמיהו י"ג), "פֶּן תִּגֹּף בָּאֶבֶן רַגְלֶךָ" (תהילים צ"א), "וּלְאֶבֶן נֶגֶף" (ישעיהו ח'):

וְשָׁרַ֣ץ הַיְאֹר֮ צְפַרְדְּעִים֒ וְעָלוּ֙ וּבָ֣אוּ בְּבֵיתֶ֔ךָ וּבַחֲדַ֥ר מִשְׁכָּבְךָ֖ וְעַל־מִטָּתֶ֑ךָ וּבְבֵ֤ית עֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ וּבְעַמֶּ֔ךָ וּבְתַנּוּרֶ֖יךָ וּבְמִשְׁאֲרוֹתֶֽיךָ׃
7:28
The Nile shall swarm with frogs, and they shall come up and enter your palace, your bedchamber and your bed, the houses of your courtiers and your people, and your ovens and your kneading bowls.

And the river shall swarm with frogs, which shall go up and come into thy house, and into thy bed-chamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneading-troughs.

וִירַבֵּי נַהֲרָא עֻרְדְּעָנַיָּא וְיִסְּקוּן וְיֶעֱלוּן בְּבֵיתָךְ וּבְאִדְּרוֹן בֵּית מִשְׁכְּבָךְ וְעַל עַרְסָךְ וּבְבֵית עַבְדָּיךְ וּבְעַמָּךְ וּבְתַנּוּרָךְ וּבְאַצְוָתָךְ:
ועלו. מִן הַיְאוֹר:
בביתך. וְאַחַר כָּךְ בבית עבדיך. הוּא הִתְחִיל בָּעֵצָה תְּחִלָּה, "וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל עַמּוֹ" (שמות א'), וּמִמֶּנּוּ הִתְחִילָה הַפֻּרְעָנוּת:

וּבְכָ֥ה וּֽבְעַמְּךָ֖ וּבְכָל־עֲבָדֶ֑יךָ יַעֲל֖וּ הַֽצְפַרְדְּעִֽים׃

The frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your courtiers.’”

ובכה ובעמך. בְּתוֹךְ מְעֵיהֶם נִכְנָסִין וּמְקַרְקְרִין (סוטה י"א):

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָה֮ אֶל־מֹשֶׁה֒ אֱמֹ֣ר אֶֽל־אַהֲרֹ֗ן נְטֵ֤ה אֶת־יָדְךָ֙ בְּמַטֶּ֔ךָ עַל־הַ֨נְּהָרֹ֔ת עַל־הַיְאֹרִ֖ים וְעַל־הָאֲגַמִּ֑ים וְהַ֥עַל אֶת־הַֽצְפַרְדְּעִ֖ים עַל־אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

And the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron: Hold out your arm with the rod over the rivers, the canals, and the ponds, and bring up the frogs on the land of Egypt.”

And the LORD said unto Moses: ‘Say unto Aaron: Stretch forth thy hand with thy rod over the rivers, over the canals, and over the pools, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.’

וַאֲמַר יְיָ לְמשֶׁה אֱמַר לְאַהֲרֹן אֲרֵים יָת יְדָךְ בְּחֻטְרָךְ עַל נַהֲרַיָּא עַל אֲרִתַּיָּא וְעַל אַגְמַיָּא וְאַסֵּיק יָת עֻרְדְּעָנַיָּא עַל אַרְעָא דְמִצְרָיִם:
ח׳:ב׳
וַיֵּ֤ט אַהֲרֹן֙ אֶת־יָד֔וֹ עַ֖ל מֵימֵ֣י מִצְרָ֑יִם וַתַּ֙עַל֙ הַצְּפַרְדֵּ֔עַ וַתְּכַ֖ס אֶת־אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

Aaron held out his arm over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.

And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.

וַאֲרֵים אַהֲרֹן יָת יְדֵיהּ עַל מַיָּא דְמִצְרָאֵי וּסְלֵיקַת עֻרְדְּעָנַיָּא וַחֲפַת יָת אַרְעָא דְמִצְרָיִם:
ותעל הצפרדע. צְפַרֵדַּע אַחַת הָיְתָה וְהָיוּ מַכִּין אוֹתָהּ וְהִיא מַתֶּזֶת נְחִילִים נְחִילִים, זֶהוּ מִדְרָשׁוֹ (סנהדרין ס"ז). וּפְשׁוּטוֹ יֵשׁ לוֹמַר, שֵׁרוּץ הַצְפַרְדְּעִים קוֹרֵא לְשׁוֹן יְחִידוּת; וְכֵן וַתְּהִי הַכִּנָּם – הָרְחִישָׁה, פדולייר"א בְּלַעַז, וְאַף ותעל הצפרדע – גרינולייר"א בְּלַעַז:

וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־כֵ֥ן הַֽחֲרְטֻמִּ֖ים בְּלָטֵיהֶ֑ם וַיַּעֲל֥וּ אֶת־הַֽצְפַרְדְּעִ֖ים עַל־אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

But the magicians did the same with their spells, and brought frogs upon the land of Egypt.

וַעֲבָדוּ כֵן חָרָשַׁיָּא בְּלַחֲשֵׁיהוֹן וְאַסִּיקוּ יָת עֻרְדְּעָנַיָּא עַל אַרְעָא דְמִצְרָיִם:
ח׳:ד׳
וַיִּקְרָ֨א פַרְעֹ֜ה לְמֹשֶׁ֣ה וּֽלְאַהֲרֹ֗ן וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הַעְתִּ֣ירוּ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה וְיָסֵר֙ הַֽצְפַרְדְּעִ֔ים מִמֶּ֖נִּי וּמֵֽעַמִּ֑י וַאֲשַׁלְּחָה֙ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם וְיִזְבְּח֖וּ לַיהוָֽה׃

Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Plead with the LORD to remove the frogs from me and my people, and I will let the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.”

Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said: ‘Entreat the LORD, that He take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice unto the LORD.’
ח׳:ד׳
וּקְרָא פַרְעֹה לְמשֶׁה וּלְאַהֲרֹן וַאֲמַר צַלּוֹ קֳדָם יְיָ וְיַעְדֵּי עֻרְדְּעָנַיָּא מִנִּי וּמֵעַמִּי וְאֶשְׁלַח יָת עַמָּא וְיִדְבְּחוּן קֳדָם יְיָ:
ח׳:ה׳
וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֣ה לְפַרְעֹה֮ הִתְפָּאֵ֣ר עָלַי֒ לְמָתַ֣י ׀ אַעְתִּ֣יר לְךָ֗ וְלַעֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ וּֽלְעַמְּךָ֔ לְהַכְרִית֙ הַֽצֲפַרְדְּעִ֔ים מִמְּךָ֖ וּמִבָּתֶּ֑יךָ רַ֥ק בַּיְאֹ֖ר תִּשָּׁאַֽרְנָה׃
8:5
And Moses said to Pharaoh, “You may have this triumph over me: for what time shall I plead in behalf of you and your courtiers and your people, that the frogs be cut off from you and your houses, to remain only in the Nile?”

And Moses said unto Pharaoh: ‘Have thou this glory over me; against what time shall I entreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, that the frogs be destroyed from thee and thy houses, and remain in the river only?’

וַאֲמַר משֶׁה לְפַרְעֹה שְׁאַל לָךְ גְּבוּרָא הַב לִי זְמַן לְאִמָּתַי אֱצַלֵּי עֲלָךְ וְעַל עַבְדָּיךְ וְעַל עַמָּךְ לְשֵׁיצָאָה עֻרְדְּעָנַיָּא מִנָּךְ וּמִבָּתָּיךְ לְחוֹד בְּנַהֲרָא תִּשְׁתָּאָרָן:
התפאר עלי. כְּמוֹ "הֲיִתְפָּאֵר הַגַּרְזֶן עַל הַחֹצֵב בּוֹ" (ישעיהו י') – מִשְׁתַּבֵּחַ לוֹמַר אֲנִי גָּדוֹל מִמְּךָ, ונטי"ר בְּלַעַז. וְכֵן הִתְפָּאֵר עָלַי – הִשְׁתַּבֵּחַ לְהִתְחַכֵּם וְלִשְׁאֹל דָּבָר גָּדוֹל, וְלוֹמַר שֶׁלֹּא אוּכַל לַעֲשׂוֹתוֹ:
למתי אעתיר לך. אֶת אֲשֶׁר אַעְתִּיר לְךָ הַיּוֹם עַל הַכְרָתַת הַצְפַרְדְּעִים, לְמָתַי תִּרְצֶה שֶׁיִּכָּרְתוּ? וְתִרְאֶה אִם אַשְׁלִים דְּבָרִי לַמּוֹעֵד שֶׁתִּקְבַּע לִי. אִלּוּ נֶאֱמַר "מָתַי" אַעְתִּיר, הָיָה מַשְׁמָע מָתַי אֶתְפַּלֵּל, עַכְשָׁו שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר "לְמָתַי", מַשְׁמָע אֲנִי הַיּוֹם אֶתְפַּלֵּל עָלֶיךָ, שֶׁיִּכָּרְתוּ הַצְפַרְדְּעִים לִזְמַן שֶׁתִּקְבַּע עָלַי; אֱמֹר לְאֵיזֶה יוֹם תִּרְצֶה שֶׁיִּכָּרְתוּ: אעתיר, העתירו, והעתרתי. וְלֹא נֶאֱמַר אֶעְתַּר, עִתְרוּ, וְעָתַרְתִּי, מִפְּנֵי שֶׁכָּל לְשׁוֹן עתר הַרְבּוֹת פֶּלֶל הוּא, וְכַאֲשֶׁר יֹאמַר אַרְבֶּה, הַרְבּוּ, וְהִרְבֵּיתִי, לְשׁוֹן מַפְעִיל, כָּךְ יֹאמַר אַעְתִּיר, הַעְתִּירוּ, וְהַעְתַּרְתִּי דְּבָרִים; וְאָב לְכֻלָּם "וְהַעְתַּרְתֶּם עָלַי דִּבְרֵיכֶם" (יחזקאל ל"ה) – הִרְבֵּיתֶם:

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר לְמָחָ֑ר וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ כִּדְבָ֣רְךָ֔ לְמַ֣עַן תֵּדַ֔ע כִּי־אֵ֖ין כַּיהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃

“For tomorrow,” he replied. And [Moses] said, “As you say—that you may know that there is none like the LORD our God;

And he said: ‘Against to-morrow.’ And he said: ‘Be it according to thy word; that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God.

וַאֲמַר לִמְחָר וַאֲמַר כְּפִתְגָּמָךְ בְּדִיל דְּתִדַּע אֲרֵי לֵית כַּייָ אֱלָהָנָא:
ויאמר למחר. הִתְפַּלֵּל הַיּוֹם, שֶׁיִּכָּרְתוּ לְמָחָר:
