כִּ֤י תִבְנֶה֙ בַּ֣יִת חָדָ֔שׁ וְעָשִׂ֥יתָ מַעֲקֶ֖ה לְגַגֶּ֑ךָ וְלֹֽא־תָשִׂ֤ים דָּמִים֙ בְּבֵיתֶ֔ךָ כִּֽי־יִפֹּ֥ל הַנֹּפֵ֖ל מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃ (ס)
22:8
When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet for your roof, so that you do not bring bloodguilt on your house if anyone should fall from it.

When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a parapet for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thy house, if any man fall from thence.

אֲרֵי תִבְנֵי בֵּיתָא חַדְתָּא וְתַעְבֵּד תְּיָקָא לְאִגְּרָךְ וְלָא תְשַׁוִּי חוֹבַת דִּין דִקְטוֹל בְּבֵיתָךְ אֲרֵי יִפֵּל דְּנָפֵל מִנֵּיהּ:
כי תבנה בית חדש. אִם קִיַּמְתָּ מִצְוַת שִׁלּוּחַ הַקֵּן, סוֹפְךָ לִבְנוֹת בַּיִת חָדָשׁ, וּתְקַיֵּם מִצְוַת מַעֲקֶה, שֶׁמִּצְוָה גּוֹרֶרֶת מִצְוָה, וְתַגִּיעַ לְכֶרֶם וְשָׂדֶה וְלִבְגָדִים נָאִים, לְכָךְ נִסְמְכוּ פָּרָשִׁיּוֹת הַלָּלוּ (תנחומא):
מעקה. גָּדֵר סָבִיב לַגַּג, וְאֻנְקְלוֹס תִּרְגֵּם "תְּיָקָא", כְּגוֹן תִּיק שֶׁמְּשַׁמֵּר מַה שֶּׁבְּתוֹכוֹ:
כי יפל הנפל. רָאוּי זֶה לִפֹּל, וְאַעַ"פִּ כֵן לֹא תִתְגַּלְגֵּל מִיתָתוֹ עַל יָדְךָ, שֶׁמְּגַלְגְּלִין זְכוּת עַל יְדֵי זַכַּאי וְחוֹבָה עַל יְדֵי חַיָּב (ספרי):
כ"ב:ט׳
לֹא־תִזְרַ֥ע כַּרְמְךָ֖ כִּלְאָ֑יִם פֶּן־תִּקְדַּ֗שׁ הַֽמְלֵאָ֤ה הַזֶּ֙רַע֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּזְרָ֔ע וּתְבוּאַ֖ת הַכָּֽרֶם׃ (ס)
22:9
You shall not sow your vineyard with a second kind of seed, else the crop—from the seed you have sown—and the yield of the vineyard may not be used.
22:9
Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with two kinds of seed; lest the fulness of the seed which thou hast sown be forfeited together with the increase of the vineyard.

לָא תִזְרַע כַּרְמָךְ עֵרוּבִין דִּילְמָא תִסְתָּאַב דִּמְעַת זַרְעָא דִּי תִזְרַע וַעֲלָלַת כַּרְמָא:
כלאים. חִטָּה וּשְׂעוֹרָה וְחַרְצָן בְּמַפֹּלֶת יָד (ברכות כ"ב):
פן תקדש. כְּתַרְגוּמוֹ "תִּסְתָּאַב", כָּל דָּבָר הַנִּתְעָב עַל הָאָדָם, בֵּין לְשֶׁבַח כְּגוֹן הֶקְדֵּשׁ, בֵּין לִגְנַאי כְּגוֹן אִסּוּר, נוֹפֵל בּוֹ לְשׁוֹן קִדּוּשׁ, כְּמוֹ "אַל תִּגַּשׁ בִּי כִּי קִדַּשְׁתִּיךָ" (ישעיהו ס"ה):
(המלאה. זֶה מִלּוּי וְתוֹסֶפֶת שֶׁהַזֶּרַע מוֹסִיף):

You shall not plow with an ox and an ass together.

לָא תִרְדֵּי בְתוֹרָא וּבַחֲמָרָא כַּחֲדָא:
לא תחרש בשור ובחמור. הוּא הַדִּין לְכָל שְׁנֵי מִינִים שֶׁבָּעוֹלָם (בבא קמא נ"ד), הוּא הַדִּין לְהַנְהִיגָם יַחַד קְשׁוּרִים זוּגִים בְּהוֹלָכַת שׁוּם מַשָּׂא (כלאים פ"ח מ"ב):

You shall not wear cloth combining wool and linen.

גְּדִלִ֖ים תַּעֲשֶׂה־לָּ֑ךְ עַל־אַרְבַּ֛ע כַּנְפ֥וֹת כְּסוּתְךָ֖ אֲשֶׁ֥ר תְּכַסֶּה־בָּֽהּ׃ (ס)

You shall make tassels on the four corners of the garment with which you cover yourself.

Thou shalt make thee twisted cords upon the four corners of thy covering, wherewith thou coverest thyself.

כְּרֻסְפְּדִין תַּעְבֶּד לָךְ עַל אַרְבַּע כַּנְפֵי כְסוּתָךְ דִּי תְכַסֵּי בַהּ:
גדלים תעשה לך. אַף מִן הַכִּלְאַיִם, לְכָךְ סְמָכָן הַכָּתוּב (יבמות ד'):

A man marries a woman and cohabits with her. Then he takes an aversion to her

אֲרֵי יִסַּב גְּבַר אִתְּתָא וְיֵעוּל לְוָתַהּ וְיִסְנִנַּהּ:

וְשָׂ֥ם לָהּ֙ עֲלִילֹ֣ת דְּבָרִ֔ים וְהוֹצִ֥יא עָלֶ֖יהָ שֵׁ֣ם רָ֑ע וְאָמַ֗ר אֶת־הָאִשָּׁ֤ה הַזֹּאת֙ לָקַ֔חְתִּי וָאֶקְרַ֣ב אֵלֶ֔יהָ וְלֹא־מָצָ֥אתִי לָ֖הּ בְּתוּלִֽים׃
22:14
and makes up charges against her and defames her, saying, “I married this woman; but when I approached her, I found that she was not a virgin.”
22:14
and lay wanton charges against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say: ‘I took this woman, and when I came nigh to her, I found not in her the tokens of virginity’;

וִישַׁוִּי לַהּ תַּסְקוֹפֵי מִלִּין וְיַפֵּק עֲלַהּ שׁוּם בִּישׁ וְיֵימַר יָת אִתְּתָא הָדָא נְסֵבִית וְעַלִּית לְוָתַהּ וְלָא אַשְׁכָּחִית לַהּ בְּתוּלִין:
ושם לה עלילת דברים – עֲבֵרָה גּוֹרֶרֶת עֲבֵרָה, עָבַר עַל לֹא תִשְׂנָא, סוֹפוֹ לָבֹא לִידֵי לָשׁוֹן הָרָע (עי' ספרי):
את האשה הזאת. מִכָּאן שֶׁאֵין אוֹמֵר דָּבָר אֶלָּא בִּפְנֵי בַעַל דִּין (שם):
כ"ב:ט"ו
וְלָקַ֛ח אֲבִ֥י הנער [הַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ה] וְאִמָּ֑הּ וְהוֹצִ֜יאוּ אֶת־בְּתוּלֵ֧י הנער [הַֽנַּעֲרָ֛ה] אֶל־זִקְנֵ֥י הָעִ֖יר הַשָּֽׁעְרָה׃
22:15
In such a case, the girl’s father and mother shall produce the evidence of the girl’s virginity before the elders of the town at the gate.
22:15
then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel’s virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate.
כ"ב:ט"ו
וְיִסַּב אֲבוּהָא (נ"א אֲבוּהִי) דְעוּלֶמְתָּא וְאִמַּהּ וְיַפְּקוּן יָת בְּתוּלֵי עוּלֶמְתָּא לָקֳדָם סָבֵי קַרְתָּא לִתְרַע בֵּית דִּין אַתְרָא:
אבי הנערה ואמה. מִי שֶׁגִּדְּלוּ גִּדּוּלִים הָרָעִים יִתְבַּזּוּ עָלֶיהָ (עי' שם):
כ"ב:ט"ז
וְאָמַ֛ר אֲבִ֥י הנער [הַֽנַּעַרָ֖ה] אֶל־הַזְּקֵנִ֑ים אֶת־בִּתִּ֗י נָתַ֜תִּי לָאִ֥ישׁ הַזֶּ֛ה לְאִשָּׁ֖ה וַיִּשְׂנָאֶֽהָ׃
22:16
And the girl’s father shall say to the elders, “I gave this man my daughter to wife, but he has taken an aversion to her;

And the damsel’s father shall say unto the elders: ‘I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;
כ"ב:ט"ז
וְיֵימַר אֲבוּהָא דְעוּלֶמְתָּא לְסָבַיָּא יָת בְּרַתִּי יְהָבִית לְגַבְרָא הָדֵין לְאִנְתּוּ וּסְנִנַּהּ:
ואמר אבי הנערה. מְלַמֵּד שֶׁאֵין רְשׁוּת לָאִשָּׁה לְדַבֵּר בִּפְנֵי הָאִישׁ (שם):
כ"ב:י"ז
וְהִנֵּה־ה֡וּא שָׂם֩ עֲלִילֹ֨ת דְּבָרִ֜ים לֵאמֹ֗ר לֹֽא־מָצָ֤אתִי לְבִתְּךָ֙ בְּתוּלִ֔ים וְאֵ֖לֶּה בְּתוּלֵ֣י בִתִּ֑י וּפָֽרְשׂוּ֙ הַשִּׂמְלָ֔ה לִפְנֵ֖י זִקְנֵ֥י הָעִֽיר׃
22:17
so he has made up charges, saying, ‘I did not find your daughter a virgin.’ But here is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity!” And they shall spread out the cloth before the elders of the town.
22:17
and, lo, he hath laid wanton charges, saying: I found not in thy daughter the tokens of virginity; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter’s virginity.’ And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city.
כ"ב:י"ז
וְהָא הוּא שַׁוִּי תַּסְקוֹפֵי מִלִּין לְמֵימַר לָא אַשְׁכָּחִית לִבְרַתָּךְ בְּתוּלִין וְאִלֵּין בְּתוּלֵי בְרַתִּי וְיִפְרְסוּן שׁוֹשִׁיפָא קֳדָם סָבֵי קַרְתָּא:
ופרשו השמלה. הֲרֵי זֶה מָשָׁל, מְחֻוָּרִין הַדְּבָרִים כַּשִּׂמְלָה (שם; כתובות שם):

וְלָֽקְח֛וּ זִקְנֵ֥י הָֽעִיר־הַהִ֖וא אֶת־הָאִ֑ישׁ וְיִסְּר֖וּ אֹתֽוֹ׃
22:18
The elders of that town shall then take the man and flog him,

And the elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him.

וְיִדְבְּרוּן סָבֵי קַרְתָּא הַהִיא יָת גַּבְרָא וְיַלְקוּן יָתֵיהּ:
ויסרו אתו. מַלְקוּת (שם):

וְעָנְשׁ֨וּ אֹת֜וֹ מֵ֣אָה כֶ֗סֶף וְנָתְנוּ֙ לַאֲבִ֣י הַֽנַּעֲרָ֔ה כִּ֤י הוֹצִיא֙ שֵׁ֣ם רָ֔ע עַ֖ל בְּתוּלַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלֽוֹ־תִהְיֶ֣ה לְאִשָּׁ֔ה לֹא־יוּכַ֥ל לְשַּׁלְּחָ֖הּ כָּל־יָמָֽיו׃ (ס)
22:19
and they shall fine him a hundred [shekels of] silver and give it to the girl’s father; for the man has defamed a virgin in Israel. Moreover, she shall remain his wife; he shall never have the right to divorce her.
22:19
And they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel; and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.

וְיִגְבּוּן מִנֵּיהּ מְאָה סִלְעִין דִּכְסָף וְיִתְּנוּן לַאֲבוּהָא דְעוּלֶמְתָּא אֲרֵי אַפֵּק שׁוּם בִּישׁ עַל בְּתוּלְתָּא דְיִשְׂרָאֵל וְלֵיהּ תְּהֵי לְאִנְתּוּ לֵית לֵיהּ רְשׁוּ לְמִפְטְרַהּ כָּל יוֹמוֹהִי:
כ"ב:כ׳
וְאִם־אֱמֶ֣ת הָיָ֔ה הַדָּבָ֖ר הַזֶּ֑ה לֹא־נִמְצְא֥וּ בְתוּלִ֖ים לנער [לַֽנַּעֲרָֽה׃]
22:20
But if the charge proves true, the girl was found not to have been a virgin,

But if this thing be true, that the tokens of virginity were not found in the damsel;

וְאִם קֻשְׁטָא הֲוָה פִּתְגָּמָא הָדֵין לָא אִשְׁתְּכָחוּ בְתוּלִין לְעוּלֶמְתָּא:
ואם אמת היה הדבר. בְּעֵדִים וְהַתְרָאָה, שֶׁזִּנְּתָה לְאַחַר אֵרוּסִין (כתובות מ"ד):

וְהוֹצִ֨יאוּ אֶת־הנער [הַֽנַּעֲרָ֜ה] אֶל־פֶּ֣תַח בֵּית־אָבִ֗יהָ וּסְקָלוּהָ֩ אַנְשֵׁ֨י עִירָ֤הּ בָּאֲבָנִים֙ וָמֵ֔תָה כִּֽי־עָשְׂתָ֤ה נְבָלָה֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִזְנ֖וֹת בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֑יהָ וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ הָרָ֖ע מִקִּרְבֶּֽךָ׃ (ס)
22:21
then the girl shall be brought out to the entrance of her father’s house, and the men of her town shall stone her to death; for she did a shameful thing in Israel, committing fornication while under her father’s authority. Thus you will sweep away evil from your midst.

then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die; because she hath wrought a wanton deed in Israel, to play the harlot in her father’s house; so shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.

וְיַפְּקוּן יָת עוּלֶמְתָּא לִתְרַע בֵּית אָבוּהָא וְיִרְגְּמֻנַּהּ אֱנָשֵׁי קַרְתַּהּ בְּאַבְנַיָּא וּתְמוּת אֲרֵי עָבְדַת קְלָנָא בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל לְזַנָּאָה בֵּית אֲבוּהָא וּתְפַלֵּי עָבֵד דְּבִישׁ מִבֵּינָךְ:
אל פתח בית אביה. רְאוּ גִּדּוּלִים שֶׁגִּדַּלְתֶּם (שם מ"ה):
אנשי עירה. בְּמַעֲמַד כָּל אַנְשֵׁי עִירָהּ (ספרי):
לזנות בית אביה. כְּמוֹ בְּבֵית אָבִיהָ:
כ"ב:כ"ב
כִּֽי־יִמָּצֵ֨א אִ֜ישׁ שֹׁכֵ֣ב ׀ עִם־אִשָּׁ֣ה בְעֻֽלַת־בַּ֗עַל וּמֵ֙תוּ֙ גַּם־שְׁנֵיהֶ֔ם הָאִ֛ישׁ הַשֹּׁכֵ֥ב עִם־הָאִשָּׁ֖ה וְהָאִשָּׁ֑ה וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ הָרָ֖ע מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (ס)
22:22
If a man is found lying with another man’s wife, both of them—the man and the woman with whom he lay—shall die. Thus you will sweep away evil from Israel.

If a man be found lying with a woman married to a husband, then they shall both of them die, the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so shalt thou put away the evil from Israel.

אֲרֵי יִשְׁתְּכַח גְּבַר דְּשָׁכֵב עִם אִתְּתָא אִתַּת גְּבַר וְיִתְקַטְּלוּן אַף תַּרְוֵיהוֹן גַּבְרָא דְּשָׁכֵב עִם אִתְּתָא וְאִתְּתָא וּתְפַלֵּי עָבֵד דְּבִישׁ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל:
ומתו גם שניהם. לְהוֹצִיא מַעֲשֵׂה חִדּוּדִים שֶׁאֵין הָאִשָּׁה נֶהֱנֵית מֵהֶם (ספרי; סנהדרין ס"ו):
גם. לְרַבּוֹת הַבָּאִים אַחֲרֵיהֶם (ספרי); דָּבָר אַחֵר, גם שניהם לְרַבּוֹת אֶת הַוָּלָד, שֶׁאִם הָיְתָה מְעֻבֶּרֶת אֵין מַמְתִּינִין לָהּ עַד שֶׁתֵּלֵד (ערכין ז'):

כִּ֤י יִהְיֶה֙ נער [נַעֲרָ֣ה] בְתוּלָ֔ה מְאֹרָשָׂ֖ה לְאִ֑ישׁ וּמְצָאָ֥הּ אִ֛ישׁ בָּעִ֖יר וְשָׁכַ֥ב עִמָּֽהּ׃
22:23
In the case of a virgin who is aI.e., for whom a bride-price has been paid; see 20.7.engaged to a man-a—if a man comes upon her in town and lies with her,

If there be a damsel that is a virgin betrothed unto a man, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;

אֲרֵי תְהֵי עוּלֶמְתָּא בְתֻלְתָּא דִּמְאָרְסָא לִגְבַר וְיַשְׁכְּחִנַּהּ גְּבַר בְּקַרְתָּא וְיִשְׁכּוּב עִמַּהּ:
ומצאה איש בעיר. לְפִיכָךְ שָׁכַב עִמָּהּ – פִּרְצָה קוֹרְאָה לַגַּנָּב, הָא אִלּוּ יָשְׁבָה בְּבֵיתָהּ, לֹא אֵרַע לָהּ (ספרי):
כ"ב:כ"ד
וְהוֹצֵאתֶ֨ם אֶת־שְׁנֵיהֶ֜ם אֶל־שַׁ֣עַר ׀ הָעִ֣יר הַהִ֗וא וּסְקַלְתֶּ֨ם אֹתָ֥ם בָּאֲבָנִים֮ וָמֵתוּ֒ אֶת־הנער [הַֽנַּעֲרָ֗ה] עַל־דְּבַר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־צָעֲקָ֣ה בָעִ֔יר וְאֶ֨ת־הָאִ֔ישׁ עַל־דְּבַ֥ר אֲשֶׁר־עִנָּ֖ה אֶת־אֵ֣שֶׁת רֵעֵ֑הוּ וּבִֽעַרְתָּ֥ הָרָ֖ע מִקִּרְבֶּֽךָ׃ (ס)
22:24
you shall take the two of them out to the gate of that town and stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry for help in the town, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. Thus you will sweep away evil from your midst.

then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die: the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour’s wife; so thou shalt put away the evil from the midst of thee.

וְתַפְּקוּן יָת תַּרְוֵיהוֹן לִתְרַע קַרְתָּא הַהִיא וְתִרְגְּמוּן יָתְהוֹן בְּאַבְנַיָּא וִימוּתוּן יָת עוּלֶמְתָּא עַל עֵסַק דִּי לָא צְוָחַת בְּקַרְתָּא וְיָת גַּבְרָא עַל עֵסַק דְּעַנִּי יָת אִתַּת חַבְרֵיהּ וּתְפַלֵּי עָבֵד דְּבִישׁ מִבֵּינָךְ:

וְֽאִם־בַּשָּׂדֶ֞ה יִמְצָ֣א הָאִ֗ישׁ אֶת־הנער [הַֽנַּעֲרָה֙] הַמְאֹ֣רָשָׂ֔ה וְהֶחֱזִֽיק־בָּ֥הּ הָאִ֖ישׁ וְשָׁכַ֣ב עִמָּ֑הּ וּמֵ֗ת הָאִ֛ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־שָׁכַ֥ב עִמָּ֖הּ לְבַדּֽוֹ׃
22:25
But if the man comes upon the engaged girl in the open country, and the man lies with her by force, only the man who lay with her shall die,

But if the man find the damsel that is betrothed in the field, and the man take hold of her, and lie with her; then the man only that lay with her shall die.

וְאִם בְּחַקְלָא יַשְׁכַּח גְּבַר יָת עוּלֶמְתָּא דִמְאָרְסָא וְיִתְקֶף בַּהּ גַּבְרָא וְיִשְׁכּוּב עִמַּהּ וְיִתְקְטֵל גַּבְרָא דְּשָׁכֵב עִמַּהּ בִּלְחוֹדוֹהִי:
כ"ב:כ"ו
ולנער [וְלַֽנַּעֲרָה֙] לֹא־תַעֲשֶׂ֣ה דָבָ֔ר אֵ֥ין לנער [לַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ה] חֵ֣טְא מָ֑וֶת כִּ֡י כַּאֲשֶׁר֩ יָק֨וּם אִ֤ישׁ עַל־רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ וּרְצָח֣וֹ נֶ֔פֶשׁ כֵּ֖ן הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃
22:26
but you shall do nothing to the girl. The girl did not incur the death penalty, for this case is like that of a man attacking another and murdering him.

But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death; for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter.

וּלְעוּלֶמְתָּא לָא תַעְבֵּד מִדַּעַם לֵית לְעוּלֶמְתָּא חוֹבַת דִּין דִּקְטוֹל אֲרֵי כְּמָא דִיקוּם גַּבְרָא עַל חַבְרֵיהּ וְיִקְטְלִנֵּיהּ נְפַשׁ כֵּן פִּתְגָּמָא הָדֵין:
כי כאשר יקום וגו'. לְפִי פְשׁוּטוֹ זֶהוּ מַשְׁמָעוֹ: כִּי אֲנוּסָה הִיא וּבְחָזְקָה עָמַד עָלֶיהָ, כְּאָדָם הָעוֹמֵד עַל חֲבֵרוֹ לְהָרְגוֹ. וְרַבּוֹתֵינוּ דָּרְשׁוּ בוֹ הֲרֵי זֶה בָא לְלַמֵּד וְנִמְצָא לָמֵד וְכוּ' (סנהדרין ע"ג):

כִּ֥י בַשָּׂדֶ֖ה מְצָאָ֑הּ צָעֲקָ֗ה הנער [הַֽנַּעֲרָה֙] הַמְאֹ֣רָשָׂ֔ה וְאֵ֥ין מוֹשִׁ֖יעַ לָֽהּ׃ (ס)

He came upon her in the open; though the engaged girl cried for help, there was no one to save her.

If a man comes upon a virgin who is not engaged and he seizes her and lies with her, and they are discovered,

the man who lay with her shall pay the girl’s father fifty [shekels of] silver, and she shall be his wife. Because he has violated her, he can never have the right to divorce her.

לָא יִסַּב גְּבַר יָת אִתַּת אֲבוּהִי וְלָא יְגַלֵּי כַּנְפָא דַאֲבוּהִי:
לא יקח. אֵין לוֹ בָּהּ לִקּוּחִין וְאֵין קִדּוּשִׁין תּוֹפְסִין בָּהּ (עי' קידושין ס"ז):
ולא יגלה כנף אביו. שׁוֹמֶרֶת יָבָם שֶׁל אָבִיו הָרְאוּיָה לְאָבִיו, וַהֲרֵי כְּבָר הֻזְהַר עָלֶיהָ מִשּׁוּם עֶרְוַת אֲחִי אָבִיךָ (ויקרא י"ח) אֶלָּא לַעֲבֹר עַל זוֹ בִּשְׁנֵי לָאוִין, וְלִסְמֹךְ לָהּ לֹא יָבֹא מַמְזֵר, לְלַמֵּד שֶׁאֵין מַמְזֵר אֶלָּא מֵחַיָּבֵי כָּרֵתוֹת, וְקַל וָחֹמֶר מֵחַיָּבֵי מִיתוֹת בֵּית דִּין, שֶׁאֵין בָּעֲרָיוֹת מִיתַת בֵּית דִּין שֶׁאֵין בָּהּ כָּרֵת (יבמות מ"ט):

לֹֽא־יָבֹ֧א פְצֽוּעַ־דַּכָּ֛א וּכְר֥וּת שָׁפְכָ֖ה בִּקְהַ֥ל יְהוָֽה׃ (ס)

No one whose testes are crushed or whose member is cut off shall be admitted into the congregation of the LORD.

וכרות שפכה. שֶׁנִּכְרַת הַגִּיד וְשׁוּב אֵינוֹ יוֹרֶה קִלּוּחַ זֶרַע אֶלָּא שׁוֹפֵךְ וְשׁוֹתֵת וְאֵינוֹ מוֹלִיד (ספרי; יבמות ע'):

because they did not meet you with food and water on your journey after you left Egypt, and because they hired Balaam son of Beor, from Pethor of Aram-naharaim, to curse you.—

עַל עֵסַק דִּי לָא עֲרָעוּ יָתְכוֹן בְּלַחְמָא וּבְמַיָּא בְּאָרְחָא בְּמִפָּקְכוֹן מִמִּצְרָיִם וְדִי אֲגַר עֲלָךְ יָת בִּלְעָם בַּר בְּעוֹר מִפְּתוֹר אֲרַם דִּי עַל פְּרָת לְלַטָּיוּתָךְ:
על דבר. עַל הָעֵצָה שֶׁיָּעֲצוּ אֶתְכֶם לְהַחֲטִיאֲכֶם:
בדרך. כְּשֶׁהֱיִיתֶם בְּטֵרוּף (ספרי):

וְלֹֽא־אָבָ֞ה יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ לִשְׁמֹ֣עַ אֶל־בִּלְעָ֔ם וַיַּהֲפֹךְ֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֧יךָ לְּךָ֛ אֶת־הַקְּלָלָ֖ה לִבְרָכָ֑ה כִּ֥י אֲהֵֽבְךָ֖ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃
23:6
But the LORD your God refused to heed Balaam; instead, the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, for the LORD your God loves you.—

Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee.

וְלָא אָבֵי יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ לְקַבָּלָא מִן בִּלְעָם וַהֲפַךְ יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ לָךְ יָת לְוָטִין לְבִרְכָן אֲרֵי רָחֲמָךְ יְיָ אֱלָהָךְ:

לֹא־תִדְרֹ֥שׁ שְׁלֹמָ֖ם וְטֹבָתָ֑ם כָּל־יָמֶ֖יךָ לְעוֹלָֽם׃ (ס)
23:7
You shall never concern yourself with their welfare or benefit as long as you live.

Thou shalt not seek their peace nor their prosperity all thy days for ever.

לָא תִתְבַּע שְׁלָמְהוֹן וְטָבָתְהוֹן כָּל יוֹמָיךְ לְעָלָם:
לא תדרש שלמם. מִכְּלָל שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר עִמְּךָ יֵשֵׁב בְּקִרְבְּךָ יָכוֹל אַף זֶה כֵּן, תַּ"לֹ לא תדרש שלמם (עי' ספרי):
