וַיַּ֛עַשׂ אֶת־מִזְבַּ֥ח הָעֹלָ֖ה עֲצֵ֣י שִׁטִּ֑ים חָמֵשׁ֩ אַמּ֨וֹת אָרְכּ֜וֹ וְחָֽמֵשׁ־אַמּ֤וֹת רָחְבּוֹ֙ רָב֔וּעַ וְשָׁלֹ֥שׁ אַמּ֖וֹת קֹמָתֽוֹ׃
38:1
He made the altar for burnt offering of acacia wood, five cubits long and five cubits wide—square—and three cubits high.

And he made the altar of burnt-offering of acacia-wood: five cubits was the length thereof, and five cubits the breadth thereof, four-square, and three cubits the height thereof.

וַעֲבַד יָת מַדְבְּחָא דַעֲלָתָא דְּאָעֵי שִׁטִּין חֲמֵשׁ אַמִּין אֻרְכֵּיהּ וַחֲמֵשׁ אַמִּין פְּתָיֵהּ מְרַבַּע וּתְלָתָא אַמִּין רוּמֵיהּ:

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ קַרְנֹתָ֗יו עַ֚ל אַרְבַּ֣ע פִּנֹּתָ֔יו מִמֶּ֖נּוּ הָי֣וּ קַרְנֹתָ֑יו וַיְצַ֥ף אֹת֖וֹ נְחֹֽשֶׁת׃

He made horns for it on its four corners, the horns being of one piece with it; and he overlaid it with copper.

And he made the horns thereof upon the four corners of it; the horns thereof were of one piece with it; and he overlaid it with brass.

וַעֲבַד קַרְנוֹהִי עַל אַרְבַּע זִוְיָתֵיהּ מִנֵּיהּ הֲווֹ קַרְנוֹהִי וַחֲפָא יָתֵיהּ נְחָשָׁא:
ל"ח:ג׳
וַיַּ֜עַשׂ אֶֽת־כָּל־כְּלֵ֣י הַמִּזְבֵּ֗חַ אֶת־הַסִּירֹ֤ת וְאֶת־הַיָּעִים֙ וְאֶת־הַמִּזְרָקֹ֔ת אֶת־הַמִּזְלָגֹ֖ת וְאֶת־הַמַּחְתֹּ֑ת כָּל־כֵּלָ֖יו עָשָׂ֥ה נְחֹֽשֶׁת׃
38:3
He made all the utensils of the altar—the pails, the scrapers, the basins, the flesh hooks, and the fire pans; he made all these utensils of copper.

And he made all the vessels of the altar, the pots, and the shovels, and the basins, the flesh-hooks, and the fire-pans; all the vessels thereof made he of brass.

וַעֲבַד יָת כָּל מָנֵי מַדְבְּחָא יָת פְּסַכְתֵּרָוָתָא וְיָת מַגְרוֹפְיָתָא וְיָת מִזְרְקָתָא יָת צִנּוּרְיָתָא וְיָת מַחְתְּיָתָא כָּל מָנוֹהִי עֲבַד נְחָשָׁא:

וַיַּ֤עַשׂ לַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ מִכְבָּ֔ר מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה רֶ֣שֶׁת נְחֹ֑שֶׁת תַּ֧חַת כַּרְכֻּבּ֛וֹ מִלְּמַ֖טָּה עַד־חֶצְיֽוֹ׃
38:4
He made for the altar a grating of meshwork in copper, extending below, under its ledge, to its middle.
38:4
And he made for the altar a grating of network of brass, under the ledge round it beneath, reaching halfway up.
ל"ח:ד׳
וַעֲבַד לְמַדְבְּחָא סְרָדָא עוֹבַד מְצַדְתָּא דִנְחָשָׁא תְּחוֹת סוֹבָבֵיהּ מִלְּרַע עַד פַּלְגֵּיהּ:
ל"ח:ה׳
וַיִּצֹ֞ק אַרְבַּ֧ע טַבָּעֹ֛ת בְּאַרְבַּ֥ע הַקְּצָוֺ֖ת לְמִכְבַּ֣ר הַנְּחֹ֑שֶׁת בָּתִּ֖ים לַבַּדִּֽים׃
38:5
He cast four rings, at the four corners of the copper grating, as holders for the poles.
38:5
And he cast four rings for the four ends of the grating of brass, to be holders for the staves.

וְאַתִּיךְ אַרְבַּע עִזְקָתָא בְּאַרְבַּע סִטְרָתָא לִסְרָדָא דִנְחָשָׁא אַתְרָא לַאֲרִיחַיָּא:
ל"ח:ו׳
וַיַּ֥עַשׂ אֶת־הַבַּדִּ֖ים עֲצֵ֣י שִׁטִּ֑ים וַיְצַ֥ף אֹתָ֖ם נְחֹֽשֶׁת׃
38:6
He made the poles of acacia wood and overlaid them with copper;

And he made the staves of acacia-wood, and overlaid them with brass.

וַעֲבַד יָת אֲרִיחַיָּא דְּאָעֵי שִׁטִּין וַחֲפָא יָתְהוֹן נְחָשָׁא:

וַיָּבֵ֨א אֶת־הַבַּדִּ֜ים בַּטַּבָּעֹ֗ת עַ֚ל צַלְעֹ֣ת הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ לָשֵׂ֥את אֹת֖וֹ בָּהֶ֑ם נְב֥וּב לֻחֹ֖ת עָשָׂ֥ה אֹתֽוֹ׃ (ס)
38:7
and he inserted the poles into the rings on the side walls of the altar, to carry it by them. He made it hollow, of boards.
38:7
And he put the staves into the rings on the sides of the altar, wherewith to bear it; he made it hollow with planks.

וְאָעֵיל יָת אֲרִיחַיָּא בְּעִזְקָתָא עַל סִטְרֵי מַדְבְּחָא לְמִטַּל יָתֵיהּ בְּהוֹן חֲלִיל לוּחִין עֲבַד יָתֵיהּ:
נבוב לחת. נָבוּב הוּא חָלוּל, וְכֵן וְעָבְיוֹ אַרְבַּע אֶצְבָּעוֹת נָבוּב (ירמיהו נ"ב):
נבוב לחת. הַלּוּחוֹת שֶׁל עֲצֵי שִׁטִּים לְכָל רוּחַ, וְהֶחָלָל בָּאֶמְצַע:

וַיַּ֗עַשׂ אֵ֚ת הַכִּיּ֣וֹר נְחֹ֔שֶׁת וְאֵ֖ת כַּנּ֣וֹ נְחֹ֑שֶׁת בְּמַרְאֹת֙ הַצֹּ֣בְאֹ֔ת אֲשֶׁ֣ר צָֽבְא֔וּ פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃ (ס)
38:8
He made the laver of copper and its stand of copper, from the mirrors of the women who performed tasksaMeaning of Heb. uncertain. at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.

And he made the laver of brass, and the base thereof of brass, of the mirrors of the serving women that did service at the door of the tent of meeting.

וַעֲבַד יָת כִּיוֹרָא נְחָשָׁא וְיָת בְּסִיסֵיהּ נְחָשָׁא בְּמֶחְזְיַן נְשַׁיָּא דְּאָתְיָן לְצַלָּאָה בִּתְרַע מַשְׁכַּן זִמְנָא:
במראת הצבאת. בְּנוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל הָיוּ בְיָדָן מַרְאוֹת שֶׁרוֹאוֹת בָּהֶן כְּשֶׁהֵן מִתְקַשְּׁטוֹת, וְאַף אוֹתָן לֹא עִכְּבוּ מִלְּהָבִיא לְנִדְבַת הַמִּשְׁכָּן, וְהָיָה מוֹאֵס מֹשֶׁה בָּהֶן מִפְּנֵי שֶׁעֲשׂוּיִם לְיֵצֶר הָרָע, אָמַר לוֹ הַקָּבָּ"ה קַבֵּל, כִּי אֵלּוּ חֲבִיבִין עָלַי מִן הַכֹּל, שֶׁעַל יְדֵיהֶם הֶעֱמִידוּ הַנָּשִׁים צְבָאוֹת רַבּוֹת בְּמִצְרַיִם; כְּשֶׁהָיוּ בַעְלֵיהֶם יְגֵעִים בַּעֲבוֹדַת פֶּרֶךְ, הָיוּ הוֹלְכוֹת וּמוֹלִיכוֹת לָהֶם מַאֲכָל וּמִשְׁתֶּה, וּמַאֲכִילוֹת אוֹתָם וְנוֹטְלוֹת הַמַּרְאוֹת, וְכָל אַחַת רוֹאָה עַצְמָהּ עִם בַּעְלָהּ בַּמַּרְאָה, וּמְשַׁדַּלְתּוֹ בִדְבָרִים, לוֹמַר אֲנִי נָאָה מִמְּךָ, וּמִתּוֹךְ כָּךְ מְבִיאוֹת לְבַעְלֵיהֶן לִידֵי תַאֲוָה וְנִזְקָקוֹת לָהֶם וּמִתְעַבְּרוֹת וְיוֹלְדוֹת שָׁם, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר תַּחַת הַתַּפּוּחַ עוֹרַרְתִּיךָ (שיר השירים ח'), וְזֶה שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר בְּמַרְאֹת הַצּוֹבְאוֹת. וְנַעֲשָׂה הַכִּיּוֹר מֵהֶם, שֶׁהוּא לָשׂוּם שָׁלוֹם בֵּין אִישׁ לְאִשְׁתּוֹ – לְהַשְׁקוֹת מִמַּיִם שֶׁבְּתוֹכוֹ לְמִי שֶׁקִּנֵּא לָהּ בַּעְלָהּ וְנִסְתְּרָה; וְתֵדַע לְךָ שֶׁהֵן מַרְאוֹת מַמָּשׁ, שֶׁהֲרֵי נֶאֱמַר וּנְחֹשֶׁת הַתְּנוּפָה שִׁבְעִים כִּכָּר וְגוֹ', וַיַּעַשׂ בָּהּ וְגוֹמֵר, וְכִיּוֹר וְכַנּוֹ לֹא הֻזְכְּרוּ שָׁם, לָמַדְתָּ שֶׁלֹּא הָיָה נְחֹשֶׁת שֶׁל כִּיּוֹר מִנְּחֹשֶׁת הַתְּנוּפָה, כָּךְ דָּרַשׁ רַבִּי תַּנְחוּמָא, וְכֵן תִּרְגֵּם אֻנְקְלוֹס בְּמֶחְזְיָת נְשַׁיָא וְהוּא תַרְגּוּם שֶׁל מַרְאוֹת, מירוריי"ש בְּלַעַז. וְכֵן מָצִינוּ וְהַגִּלְיוֹנִים (ישעיה ג') – מְתַרְגְּמִינָן מֶחְזְיָתָא:
אשר צבאו. לְהָבִיא נִדְבָתָן:

וַיַּ֖עַשׂ אֶת־הֶחָצֵ֑ר לִפְאַ֣ת ׀ נֶ֣גֶב תֵּימָ֗נָה קַלְעֵ֤י הֶֽחָצֵר֙ שֵׁ֣שׁ מָשְׁזָ֔ר מֵאָ֖ה בָּאַמָּֽה׃
38:9
He made the enclosure: On the southbCf. note at 26.18. side, a hundred cubits of hangings of fine twisted linen for the enclosure—

And he made the court; for the south side southward the hangings of the court were of fine twined linen, a hundred cubits.

וַעֲבַד יָת דַּרְתָּא לְרוּחַ עֵבַר דָּרוֹמָא סְרָדֵי דַרְתָּא דְבוּץ שְׁזִיר מְאָה בְאַמִּין:

עַמּוּדֵיהֶ֣ם עֶשְׂרִ֔ים וְאַדְנֵיהֶ֥ם עֶשְׂרִ֖ים נְחֹ֑שֶׁת וָוֵ֧י הָעַמֻּדִ֛ים וַחֲשֻׁקֵיהֶ֖ם כָּֽסֶף׃

with their twenty posts and their twenty sockets of copper, the hooks and bands of the posts being silver.

Their pillars were twenty, and their sockets twenty, of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets were of silver.

On the north side, a hundred cubits—with their twenty posts and their twenty sockets of copper, the hooks and bands of the posts being silver.

On the west side, fifty cubits of hangings—with their ten posts and their ten sockets, the hooks and bands of the posts being silver.

And for the west side were hangings of fifty cubits, their pillars ten, and their sockets ten; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets of silver.

and fifteen cubits of hangings on the other flank—on each side of the gate of the enclosurecWhich accounts for the remaining 20 cubits; cf. v. 18.—with their three posts and their three sockets.

And so for the other side; on this hand and that hand by the gate of the court were hangings of fifteen cubits; their pillars three, and their sockets three.

All the hangings around the enclosure were of fine twisted linen.

וְהָאֲדָנִ֣ים לָֽעַמֻּדִים֮ נְחֹשֶׁת֒ וָוֵ֨י הָֽעַמּוּדִ֜ים וַחֲשׁוּקֵיהֶם֙ כֶּ֔סֶף וְצִפּ֥וּי רָאשֵׁיהֶ֖ם כָּ֑סֶף וְהֵם֙ מְחֻשָּׁקִ֣ים כֶּ֔סֶף כֹּ֖ל עַמֻּדֵ֥י הֶחָצֵֽר׃

The sockets for the posts were of copper, the hooks and bands of the posts were of silver, the overlay of their tops was of silver; all the posts of the enclosure were banded with silver.—

And the sockets for the pillars were of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets of silver; and the overlaying of their capitals of silver; and all the pillars of the court were filleted with silver.

וְסַמְכַיָּא לְעַמּוּדַיָּא נְחָשָׁא וָוֵי עַמּוּדַיָּא וְכִבּוּשֵׁיהוֹן דִּכְסַף וְחִפּוּי רֵישֵׁיהוֹן דִּכְסָף וְאִנּוּן מְכַבְּשִׁין דִּכְסַף כָּל עַמּוּדֵי דַרְתָּא:

וּמָסַ֞ךְ שַׁ֤עַר הֶחָצֵר֙ מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה רֹקֵ֔ם תְּכֵ֧לֶת וְאַרְגָּמָ֛ן וְתוֹלַ֥עַת שָׁנִ֖י וְשֵׁ֣שׁ מָשְׁזָ֑ר וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים אַמָּה֙ אֹ֔רֶךְ וְקוֹמָ֤ה בְרֹ֙חַב֙ חָמֵ֣שׁ אַמּ֔וֹת לְעֻמַּ֖ת קַלְעֵ֥י הֶחָצֵֽר׃

The screen of the gate of the enclosure, done in embroidery, was of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, and fine twisted linen. It was twenty cubits long. dMeaning of Heb. uncertain.Its height—or width—was five cubits, like that of-d the hangings of the enclosure.

And the screen for the gate of the court was the work of the weaver in colours, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen; and twenty cubits was the length, and the height in the breadth was five cubits, answerable to the hangings of the court.

וּפְרָסָא דִּתְרַע דַּרְתָּא עוֹבַד צַיָּר תִּכְלָא וְאַרְגְּוָנָא וּצְבַע זְהוֹרִי וּבוּץ שְׁזִיר וְעֶסְרִין אַמִּין אֻרְכָּא וְרוּמָא בְּפוּתְיָא חֲמֵשׁ אַמִּין לָקֳבֵל סְרָדֵי דַרְתָּא:
לעמת קלעי החצר. כְּמִדַּת קַלְעֵי הֶחָצֵר:

The posts were four; their four sockets were of copper, their hooks of silver; and the overlay of their tops was of silver, as were also their bands.—

And their pillars were four, and their sockets four of brass; their hooks of silver, and the overlaying of their capitals and their fillets of silver.
