וַיִּגְדַּ֖ל הָאִ֑ישׁ וַיֵּ֤לֶךְ הָלוֹךְ֙ וְגָדֵ֔ל עַ֥ד כִּֽי־גָדַ֖ל מְאֹֽד׃
26:13
and the man grew richer and richer until he was very wealthy:

And the man waxed great, and grew more and more until he became very great.

וּרְבָא גַבְרָא וַאֲזַל אֲזִיל (נ"א סָגֵי) וְרָבֵי עַד דִּי רְבָא לַחֲדָא:
כי גדל מאוד. שֶׁהָיוּ אוֹמְרִים זֶבֶל פִּרְדּוֹתָיו שֶׁל יִצְחָק וְלֹא כַסְפּוֹ וּזְהָבוֹ שֶׁל אֲבִימֶלֶךְ (בראשית רבה):

וַֽיְהִי־ל֤וֹ מִקְנֵה־צֹאן֙ וּמִקְנֵ֣ה בָקָ֔ר וַעֲבֻדָּ֖ה רַבָּ֑ה וַיְקַנְא֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃
26:14
he acquired flocks and herds, and a large household, so that the Philistines envied him.

And he had possessions of flocks, and possessions of herds, and a great household; and the Philistines envied him.

וַהֲוָה לֵיהּ גֵּיתֵי עָנָא וְגֵיתֵי תוֹרִין וּפָלְחָנָא (נ"א וַעֲבוּדָה) סַגְיָא וְקַנִּיאוּ בֵיהּ פְּלִשְׁתָּאֵי:
ועבדה רבה. פְּעֻלָּה רַבָּה בִּלְשׁוֹן לע"ז אוברי"נא, עֲבוֹדָה מַשְׁמָע עֲבוֹדָה אַחַת; עֲבֻדָּה מַשְׁמָע פְּעֻלָּה רַבָּה:

וְכָל־הַבְּאֵרֹ֗ת אֲשֶׁ֤ר חָֽפְרוּ֙ עַבְדֵ֣י אָבִ֔יו בִּימֵ֖י אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֑יו סִתְּמ֣וּם פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַיְמַלְא֖וּם עָפָֽר׃
26:15
And the Philistines stopped up all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of his father Abraham, filling them with earth.

Now all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.

וְכָל בֵּירִין דִּי חֲפָרוּ עַבְדֵי אֲבוּהִי בְּיוֹמֵי אַבְרָהָם אֲבוּהִי טַמּוֹנוּן פְּלִשְׁתָּאֵי וּמְלֹּאנוּן עַפְרָא:
סתמום פלשתים. מִפְּנֵי שֶׁאָמְרוּ תַּקָּלָה הֵם לָנוּ מִפְּנֵי הַגְּיָסוֹת הַבָּאוֹת עָלֵינוּ, טַמּוֹנוּן פְּלִשְׁתָּאֵי לְשׁוֹן סְתִימָה, וּבִלְשׁוֹן הַתַּלְמוּד מְטַמְטֵם אֶת הַלֵּב:
כ"ו:ט"ז
וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ אֶל־יִצְחָ֑ק לֵ֚ךְ מֵֽעִמָּ֔נוּ כִּֽי־עָצַֽמְתָּ־מִמֶּ֖נּוּ מְאֹֽד׃
26:16
And Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go away from us, for you have become far too big for us.”
26:16
And Abimelech said unto Isaac: ‘Go from us; for thou art much mightier than we.’

וַאֲמַר אֲבִימֶלֶךְ לְיִצְחָק אִזֵּל מֵעִמָּנָא אֲרֵי תְקֵפְתָּא מִנָּנָא לַחֲדָא:
כ"ו:י"ז
וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ מִשָּׁ֖ם יִצְחָ֑ק וַיִּ֥חַן בְּנַֽחַל־גְּרָ֖ר וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב שָֽׁם׃
26:17
So Isaac departed from there and encamped in the wadi of Gerar, where he settled.
26:17
And Isaac departed thence, and encamped in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.

וַאֲזַל מִתַּמָּן יִצְחָק וּשְׁרָא בְנַחֲלָא דִגְרָר וִיתֵב תַּמָּן:
בנחל גרר. רָחוֹק מִן הָעִיר:
כ"ו:י"ח
וַיָּ֨שָׁב יִצְחָ֜ק וַיַּחְפֹּ֣ר ׀ אֶת־בְּאֵרֹ֣ת הַמַּ֗יִם אֲשֶׁ֤ר חָֽפְרוּ֙ בִּימֵי֙ אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֔יו וַיְסַתְּמ֣וּם פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים אַחֲרֵ֖י מ֣וֹת אַבְרָהָ֑ם וַיִּקְרָ֤א לָהֶן֙ שֵׁמ֔וֹת כַּשֵּׁמֹ֕ת אֲשֶׁר־קָרָ֥א לָהֶ֖ן אָבִֽיו׃
26:18
Isaac dug anew the wells which had been dug in the days of his father Abraham and which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham’s death; and he gave them the same names that his father had given them.
26:18
And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham; and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

וְתָב יִצְחָק וְחָפַר יָת בֵּירֵי דְמַיָּא דִּי חֲפָרוּ בְּיוֹמֵי אַבְרָהָם אֲבוּהִי וְטַמּוֹנוּן פְּלִשְׁתָּאֵי בָּתַר דְּמִית אַבְרָהָם וּקְרָא לְהֵן שְׁמָהָן כִּשְׁמָהָן דִּי הֲוָה קָרֵי לְהֵן אֲבוּהִי:
וישב ויחפר. הַבְּאֵרוֹת אֲשֶׁר חָפְרוּ בִּימֵי אַבְרָהָם אָבִיו וּפְלִשְׁתִּים סִתְּמוּם, מִקֹּדֶם שֶׁנָּסַע יִצְחָק מִגְּרָר, חָזַר וַחֲפָרָן:
כ"ו:י"ט
וַיַּחְפְּר֥וּ עַבְדֵֽי־יִצְחָ֖ק בַּנָּ֑חַל וַיִּ֨מְצְאוּ־שָׁ֔ם בְּאֵ֖ר מַ֥יִם חַיִּֽים׃
26:19
But when Isaac’s servants, digging in the wadi, found there a well of spring water,

And Isaac’s servants digged in the valley, and found there a well of living water.

וַחֲפָרוּ עַבְדֵי יִצְחָק בְּנַחֲלָא וְאַשְׁכָּחוּ תַמָּן בֵּירָא דְּמַיִּין נָבְעִין:
כ"ו:כ׳
וַיָּרִ֜יבוּ רֹעֵ֣י גְרָ֗ר עִם־רֹעֵ֥י יִצְחָ֛ק לֵאמֹ֖ר לָ֣נוּ הַמָּ֑יִם וַיִּקְרָ֤א שֵֽׁם־הַבְּאֵר֙ עֵ֔שֶׂק כִּ֥י הִֽתְעַשְּׂק֖וּ עִמּֽוֹ׃
26:20
the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” He named that well Esek,aI.e., “contention.” because they contended with him.
26:20
And the herdmen of Gerar strove with Isaac’s herdmen, saying: ‘The water is ours.’ And he called the name of the well Esek; because they contended with him.
כ"ו:כ׳
וּנְצוֹ רַעֲוָתָא דִגְרָר עִם רַעֲוָתָא דְיִצְחָק לְמֵימַר דִּי לָנָא מַיָּא וּקְרָא שְׁמָא דְבֵירָא עִסְקָא אֲרֵי אִתְעַסִּיקוּ עִמֵּיהּ:
עשק. עִרְעוּר:
כי התעשקו עמו. נִתְעַשְּׂקוּ עִמּוֹ עָלֶיהָ בִּמְרִיבָה וְעִרְעוּר:
כ"ו:כ"א
וַֽיַּחְפְּרוּ֙ בְּאֵ֣ר אַחֶ֔רֶת וַיָּרִ֖יבוּ גַּם־עָלֶ֑יהָ וַיִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמָ֖הּ שִׂטְנָֽה׃
26:21
And when they dug another well, they disputed over that one also; so he named it Sitnah.bI.e., “harassment.”

And they digged another well, and they strove for that also. And he called the name of it Sitnah.

וַחֲפָרוּ בֵּירָא אָחֳרִי וּנְצוֹ אַף עֲלַהּ וּקְרָא שְׁמַהּ שִׂטְנָה:
כ"ו:כ"ב
וַיַּעְתֵּ֣ק מִשָּׁ֗ם וַיַּחְפֹּר֙ בְּאֵ֣ר אַחֶ֔רֶת וְלֹ֥א רָב֖וּ עָלֶ֑יהָ וַיִּקְרָ֤א שְׁמָהּ֙ רְחֹב֔וֹת וַיֹּ֗אמֶר כִּֽי־עַתָּ֞ה הִרְחִ֧יב יְהוָ֛ה לָ֖נוּ וּפָרִ֥ינוּ בָאָֽרֶץ׃
26:22
He moved from there and dug yet another well, and they did not quarrel over it; so he called it Rehoboth, saying, “Now at last the LORD has granted us ample spacecHeb. hirḥib, connected with “Rehoboth.” to increase in the land.”

And he removed from thence, and digged another well; and for that they strove not. And he called the name of it Rehoboth; and he said: ‘For now the LORD hath made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.’
כ"ו:כ"ב
וְאִסְתַּלַּק מִתַּמָּן וַחֲפַר בֵּירָא אָחֳרִי וְלָא נְצוֹ עֲלַהּ וּקְרָא שְׁמַהּ רְחֹבוֹת וַאֲמַר אֲרֵי כְעַן אַפְתֵּי יְיָ לָנָא וְנִיפּוּשׁ (נ"א וְיַפְשִׁנָּנָא) בְּאַרְעָא:
ופרינו בארץ. כְּתַרְגּוּמוֹ וְנֵיפוּשׁ בְּאַרְעָא:
