כ"ו:ל"א וְעָשִׂ֣יתָ פָרֹ֗כֶת תְּכֵ֧לֶת וְאַרְגָּמָ֛ן וְתוֹלַ֥עַת שָׁנִ֖י וְשֵׁ֣שׁ מָשְׁזָ֑ר מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה חֹשֵׁ֛ב יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה אֹתָ֖הּ כְּרֻבִֽים׃

26:31 You shall make a curtain of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, and fine twisted linen; it shall have a design of cherubim worked into it.

26:31 And thou shalt make a veil of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen; with cherubim the work of the skilful workman shall it be made.

כ"ו:ל"א וְתַעְבֵּד פָּרֻכְתָּא תִּכְלָא וְאַגְּוָנָא וּצְבַע זְהוֹרִי וּבוּץ שְׁזִיר עוֹבַד אֳמָן יַעְבֵּד יָתַהּ צוּרַת כְּרוּבִין:

פרכת. לְשׁוֹן מְחִצָּה הוּא, וּבִלְשׁוֹן חֲכָמִים פַּרְגּוֹד דָּבָר הַמַּבְדִּיל בֵּין הַמֶּלֶךְ וּבֵין הָעָם:

תכלת וארגמן. כָּל מִין וָמִין הָיָה כָפוּל בְּכָל חוּט וָחוּט שִׁשָּׁה חוּטִין:

מעשה חשב. כְּבָר פֵּרַשְׁתִּי שֶׁזּוֹ הִיא אֲרִיגָה שֶׁל שְׁתֵּי קִירוֹת, וְהַצִּיּוּרִין שֶׁמִּשְּׁנֵי עֲבָרֶיהָ אֵינָן דּוֹמִין זֶה לָזֶה:

כרבים. צִיּוּרִין שֶׁל בְּרִיּוֹת יַעֲשֶׂה בָהּ:

כ"ו:ל"ב וְנָתַתָּ֣ה אֹתָ֗הּ עַל־אַרְבָּעָה֙ עַמּוּדֵ֣י שִׁטִּ֔ים מְצֻפִּ֣ים זָהָ֔ב וָוֵיהֶ֖ם זָהָ֑ב עַל־אַרְבָּעָ֖ה אַדְנֵי־כָֽסֶף׃

26:32 Hang it upon four posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold and having hooks of gold, [set] in four sockets of silver.

26:32 And thou shalt hang it upon four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, their hooks being of gold, upon four sockets of silver.

כ"ו:ל"ב וְתִתֵּן יָתַהּ עַל אַרְבְּעָא עַמּוּדֵי שִׁטִּין מְחַפְּיָן דַּהֲבָא וָוֵיהוֹן דַּהֲבָא עַל אַרְבְּעָא סַמְכֵי דִכְסָף:

ארבעה עמודי שטים. תְּקוּעִים בְּתוֹךְ אַרְבָּעָה אֲדָנִים, וְאוּנְקְלִיּוֹת קְבוּעִין בָּהֵן, עֲקֻמִּים לְמַעְלָה, לְהוֹשִׁיב עֲלֵיהֶן כְּלוֹנָס שֶׁרֹאשׁ הַפָּרֹכֶת כָּרוּךְ בָּהּ, וְהָאוּנְקְלִיּוֹת הֵן הַוָּוִין – שֶׁהֲרֵי כְמִין וָוִין הֵן עֲשׂוּיִים – וְהַפָּרֹכֶת אָרְכָּהּ עֶשֶׂר אַמּוֹת לְרָחְבּוֹ שֶׁל מִשְׁכָּן וְרָחְבָּהּ עֶשֶׂר אַמּוֹת כְּגָבְהָן שֶׁל קְרָשִׁים, פְּרוּסָה בִּשְׁלִישִׁית שֶׁל מִשְׁכָּן, שֶׁיְּהֵא הֵימֶנָּה וְלִפְנִים עֶשֶׂר אַמּוֹת וְהֵימֶנָּה וְלַחוּץ עֶשְׂרִים אַמָּה, נִמְצָא בֵית קָדְשֵׁי הַקֳּדָשִׁים עֶשֶׂר עַל עֶשֶׂר, שֶׁנֶּ' וְנָתַתָּה אֶת הַפָּרֹכֶת תַּחַת הַקְּרָסִים – הַמְחַבְּרִים אֶת שְׁתֵּי חוֹבְרוֹת שֶׁל יְרִיעוֹת הַמִּשְׁכָּן; רֹחַב הַחוֹבֶרֶת עֶשְׂרִים אַמָּה, וּכְשֶׁפְּרָשָׂהּ עַל גַּג הַמִּשְׁכָּן מִן הַפֶּתַח לַמַּעֲרָב, כָּלְתָה בִּשְׁנֵי שְׁלִישִׁי הַמִּשְׁכָּן, וְהַחוֹבֶרֶת הַשֵּׁנִית כִּסְּתָה שְׁלִישׁוֹ שֶׁל מִשְׁכָּן, וְהַמּוֹתָר תָּלוּי לַאֲחוֹרָיו לְכַסּוֹת אֶת הַקְּרָשִׁים:

כ"ו:ל"ג וְנָתַתָּ֣ה אֶת־הַפָּרֹכֶת֮ תַּ֣חַת הַקְּרָסִים֒ וְהֵבֵאתָ֥ שָׁ֙מָּה֙ מִבֵּ֣ית לַפָּרֹ֔כֶת אֵ֖ת אֲר֣וֹן הָעֵד֑וּת וְהִבְדִּילָ֤ה הַפָּרֹ֙כֶת֙ לָכֶ֔ם בֵּ֣ין הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ וּבֵ֖ין קֹ֥דֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִֽׁים׃

26:33 Hang the curtain under the clasps, and carry the Ark of the Pact there, behind the curtain, so that the curtain shall serve you as a partition between the Holy and the Holy of Holies.

26:33 And thou shalt hang up the veil under the clasps, and shalt bring in thither within the veil the ark of the testimony; and the veil shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy.

כ"ו:ל"ג וְתִתֵּן יָת פָּרֻכְתָּא תְּחוֹת פּוּרְפַיָּא וְתָעֵל תַּמָּן מִגָּו לְפָרֻכְתָּא יָת אֲרוֹנָא דְסַהֲדוּתָא וְתַפְרֵשׁ פָּרֻכְתָּא לְכוֹן בֵּין קוּדְשָׁא וּבֵין קֹדֶשׁ קוּדְשַׁיָּא:

כ"ו:ל"ג אור החיים

1וְנָתַתָּה אֶת הַפָּרֹכֶת וְגוֹ׳ וְהֵבֵאתָ שָׁמָּה. מִכָּאן מַשְׁמַע כִּי יַקְדִּים לִתְלוֹת הַפָּרֹכֶת בִּמְקוֹמוֹ, וְאַחַר כָּךְ יָבִיא הָאָרוֹן לִפְנִים מֵהַפָּרֹכֶת, וּבְפָרָשַׁת פְּקוּדֵי (שמות מ:ג) אָמַר ה׳ אֵלָיו ״וְשַׂמְתָּ שָׁם אֶת אֲרוֹן הָעֵדוּת וְסַכֹּתָ עַל הָאָרוֹן אֶת הַפָּרֹכֶת״, מַשְׁמַע כִּי יַקְדִּים הָאָרוֹן, וְכֵן עָשָׂה מֹשֶׁה שֶׁהִקְדִּים הָאָרוֹן תְּחִלָּה כַּמְבֹאָר שָׁם (שמות מ:כ).

ונתתה את הפרכת…והבאת שמה מבית לפרכת, "You shall hang up the curtain…and bring it within the curtain, etc." This appears to teach that the dividing curtain was to be hung prior to the Holy Ark being brought inside the Holy of Holies. In 40,3 G'd said to Moses: "You shall place the ark of testimony there and you shall cover the ark with the curtain." This appears to mean that the ark was already inside the Holy of Holies when the curtain would separate it from the Sanctuary proper. Moses also appears to have acted in accordance with the instructions in chapter 40 seeing that we read in 40,20: "And he took and put the testimony in the ark and set the staves on the ark and put the ark cover above, upon the ark."

2וְנִרְאֶה כִּי מַה שֶׁהִקְדִּים נְתִינַת הַפָּרֹכֶת לַהֲבָאַת הָאָרוֹן, אֵינוֹ אֶלָּא שֶׁרָצָה לִגְמֹר מַעֲשֵׂה הַפָּרֹכֶת, אֲבָל סֵדֶר אֶת מִי יַקְדִּים הִנֵּה הוּבָא בְּפָרָשַׁת פְּקוּדֵי, אוֹ לְצַד כִּי סֵדֶר הַהֲקָמָה אֵין זֶה מְקוֹמוֹ אֶלָּא בְּפָרָשַׁת פְּקוּדֵי, וְלֹא הוּזְכַּר כָּאן הֲבָאַת הָאָרוֹן אֶלָּא לוֹמַר מַה מְשַׁמֵּשׁ הַפָּרֹכֶת וּמַה מַעֲשָׂיו, שֶׁהוּא לְהַבְדִּיל בֵּין הַקֹּדֶשׁ וּבֵין קֹדֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁים שֶׁהוּא מְקוֹמוֹ שֶׁל הָאָרוֹן, לָזֶה לֹא דִּקְדֵּק לוֹמַר מִי קוֹדֵם, וְתִדְרְשֶׁנּוּ בִּמְקוֹמוֹ.

Apparently we must resolve this contradiction by understanding our verse here as meaning that the curtain should be completed before the ark was to be placed inside the Holy of Holies. The curtain was not to be hung, however, before Moses had placed the ark of testimony inside the square provided for the Holy of Holies. In our verse no mention is made at all of the ark being introduced into the Holy of Holies. Our verse deals only with the eventual function of the dividing curtain, namely to separate the Sanctuary from the Holy of Holies. This is why there was no need to speak about the order in which these furnishings were arranged inside the Tabernacle.

כ"ו:ל"ד וְנָתַתָּ֙ אֶת־הַכַּפֹּ֔רֶת עַ֖ל אֲר֣וֹן הָעֵדֻ֑ת בְּקֹ֖דֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִֽׁים׃

26:34 Place the cover upon the Ark of the Pact in the Holy of Holies.

26:34 And thou shalt put the ark-cover upon the ark of the testimony in the most holy place.

כ"ו:ל"ד וְתִתֵּן יָת כַּפֻּרְתָּא עַל אֲרוֹנָא דְסַהֲדוּתָא בְּקֹדֶשׁ קוּדְשַׁיָּא:

כ"ו:ל"ה וְשַׂמְתָּ֤ אֶת־הַשֻּׁלְחָן֙ מִח֣וּץ לַפָּרֹ֔כֶת וְאֶת־הַמְּנֹרָה֙ נֹ֣כַח הַשֻּׁלְחָ֔ן עַ֛ל צֶ֥לַע הַמִּשְׁכָּ֖ן תֵּימָ֑נָה וְהַ֨שֻּׁלְחָ֔ן תִּתֵּ֖ן עַל־צֶ֥לַע צָפֽוֹן׃

26:35 Place the table outside the curtain, and the lampstand by the south wall of the Tabernacle opposite the table, which is to be placed by the north wall.

26:35 And thou shalt set the table without the veil, and the candlestick over against the table on the side of the tabernacle toward the south; and thou shalt put the table on the north side.

כ"ו:ל"ה וּתְשַׁוִּי יָת פָּתוֹרָא מִבָּרָא לְפָרֻכְתָּא וְיָת מְנַרְתָּא לָקֳבֵל פָּתוֹרָא עַל צִדָּא דְמַשְׁכְּנָא דָּרוֹמָא וּפָתוֹרָא תִתֵּן עַל סְטַר צִפּוּנָא:

ושמת את השלחן. שֻׁלְחָן בַּצָּפוֹן, מָשׁוּךְ מִן הַכֹּתֶל הַצְּפוֹנִי שְׁתֵּי אַמּוֹת וּמֶחֱצָה, וּמְנוֹרָה בַדָּרוֹם, מְשׁוּכָה מִן הַכֹּתֶל הַדְּרוֹמִי שְׁתֵּי אַמּוֹת וּמֶחֱצָה, וּמִזְבַּח הַזָּהָב נָתוּן כְּנֶגֶד אֲוִיר שֶׁבֵּין שֻׁלְחָן לַמְּנוֹרָה מָשׁוּךְ קִמְעָא כְּלַפֵּי הַמִּזְרָח, וְכֻלָּם נְתוּנִים מִן חֲצִי הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְלִפְנִים; כֵּיצַד? אֹרֶךְ הַמִּשְׁכָּן מִן הַפֶּתַח לַפָּרֹכֶת עֶשְׂרִים אַמָּה, הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וְהַשֻּׁלְחָן וְהַמְּנוֹרָה מְשׁוּכִים מִן הַפֶּתַח לְצַד מַעֲרָב עֶשֶׂר אַמּוֹת (יומא ל"ג):

כ"ו:ל"ו וְעָשִׂ֤יתָ מָסָךְ֙ לְפֶ֣תַח הָאֹ֔הֶל תְּכֵ֧לֶת וְאַרְגָּמָ֛ן וְתוֹלַ֥עַת שָׁנִ֖י וְשֵׁ֣שׁ מָשְׁזָ֑ר מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה רֹקֵֽם׃

26:36 You shall make a screen for the entrance of the Tent, of blue, purple, and crimson yarns, and fine twisted linen, done in embroidery.

26:36 And thou shalt make a screen for the door of the Tent, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, the work of the weaver in colours.

כ"ו:ל"ו וְתַעְבֵּד פְּרָסָא לִתְרַע מַשְׁכְּנָא תִּכְלָא וְאַרְגְּוָנָא וּצְבַע זְהוֹרִי וּבוּץ שְׁזִיר עוֹבַד צַיָּר:

ועשית מסך. וִילוֹן, הוּא מָסָךְ כְּנֶגֶד הַפֶּתַח, כְּמוֹ שַׂכְתָּ בַעֲדוֹ (איוב א'), לְשׁוֹן מָגֵן:

מעשה רקם. הַצּוּרוֹת עֲשׂוּיוֹת בּוֹ מַעֲשֵׂה מַחַט, כְּפַרְצוּף שֶׁל עֵבֶר זֶה כָּךְ פַּרְצוּף שֶׁל עֵבֶר זֶה:

רקם. שֵׁם הָאָמָּן וְלֹא שֵׁם הָאָמָּנוּת, וְתַרְגּוּמוֹ עוֹבַד צַיָּר וְלֹא עוֹבַד צִיּוּר. מִדַּת הַמָּסָךְ כְּמִדַּת הַפָּרֹכֶת – עֶשֶׂר אַמּוֹת עַל עֶשֶׂר אַמּוֹת:

כ"ו:ל"ז וְעָשִׂ֣יתָ לַמָּסָ֗ךְ חֲמִשָּׁה֙ עַמּוּדֵ֣י שִׁטִּ֔ים וְצִפִּיתָ֤ אֹתָם֙ זָהָ֔ב וָוֵיהֶ֖ם זָהָ֑ב וְיָצַקְתָּ֣ לָהֶ֔ם חֲמִשָּׁ֖ה אַדְנֵ֥י נְחֹֽשֶׁת׃ (ס)

26:37 Make five posts of acacia wood for the screen and overlay them with gold—their hooks being of gold—and cast for them five sockets of copper.

26:37 And thou shalt make for the screen five pillars of acacia, and overlay them with gold; their hooks shall be of gold; and thou shalt cast five sockets of brass for them.

כ"ו:ל"ז וְתַעְבֵּד לִפְרָסָא חַמְשָׁא עַמּוּדֵי שִׁטִּין וְתַחֲפֵּי יָתְהוֹן דַּהֲבָא וָוֵיהוֹן דַּהֲבָא וְתַתִּיךְ לְהוֹן חַמְשָׁא סַמְכֵי נְחָשָׁא:
