Genesis 5:25–6:8
ה׳:כ"ה וַיְחִ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֔לַח שֶׁ֧בַע וּשְׁמֹנִ֛ים שָׁנָ֖ה וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־לָֽמֶךְ׃
5:25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he begot Lamech.
5:25 And Methuselah lived a hundred eighty and seven years, and begot Lamech.
ה׳:כ"ה וַחֲיָא מְתוּשֶׁלַח מְאָה וְתַמְנִין וּשְׁבַע שְׁנִין וְאוֹלִיד יָת לָמֶךְ:
ה׳:כ"ו וַֽיְחִ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֗לַח אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־לֶ֔מֶךְ שְׁתַּ֤יִם וּשְׁמוֹנִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃
5:26 After the birth of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and begot sons and daughters.
5:26 And Methuselah lived after he begot Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begot sons and daughters.
ה׳:כ"ו וַחֲיָא מְתוּשֶׁלַח בָּתַר דְּאוֹלִיד יָת לֶמֶךְ שְׁבַע מְאָה וְתַמְנִין וְתַרְתֵּין שְׁנִין וְאוֹלִיד בְּנִין וּבְנָן:
ה׳:כ"ז וַיִּהְיוּ֙ כָּל־יְמֵ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֔לַח תֵּ֤שַׁע וְשִׁשִּׁים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּתְשַׁ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ (פ)
5:27 All the days of Methuselah came to 969 years; then he died.
5:27 And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years; and he died.
ה׳:כ"ז וַהֲווֹ כָּל יוֹמֵי מְתוּשֶׁלַח תְּשַׁע מְאָה וְשִׁתִּין וּתְשַׁע שְׁנִין וּמִית:
ה׳:כ"ח וַֽיְחִי־לֶ֕מֶךְ שְׁתַּ֧יִם וּשְׁמֹנִ֛ים שָׁנָ֖ה וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד בֵּֽן׃
5:28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he begot a son.
5:28 And Lamech lived a hundred eighty and two years, and begot a son.
ה׳:כ"ח וַחֲיָא לֶמֶךְ מְאָה וְתַמְנִין וְתַרְתֵּין שְׁנִין וְאוֹלִיד בָּר:
ה׳:כ"ט וַיִּקְרָ֧א אֶת־שְׁמ֛וֹ נֹ֖חַ לֵאמֹ֑ר זֶ֠ה יְנַחֲמֵ֤נוּ מִֽמַּעֲשֵׂ֙נוּ֙ וּמֵעִצְּב֣וֹן יָדֵ֔ינוּ מִן־הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֵֽרְרָ֖הּ יְהוָֽה׃
5:29 And he named him Noah, saying, “This one will provide us reliefaConnecting Noah with Heb. niḥam “to comfort”; cf. 9.20 ff. from our work and from the toil of our hands, out of the very soil which the LORD placed under a curse.”
5:29 And he called his name Noah, saying: ‘This same shall comfort us in our work and in the toil of our hands, which cometh from the ground which the LORD hath cursed.’
ה׳:כ"ט וּקְרָא יָת שְׁמֵהּ נֹחַ לְמֵימָר דֵּין יְנַחֲמִנָּנָא מֵעוֹבָדָנָא וּמִלֵּאוּת יְדָנָא מִן אַרְעָא דִּי לַטְטַהּ יְיָ:
ה׳:ל׳ וַֽיְחִי־לֶ֗מֶךְ אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־נֹ֔חַ חָמֵ֤שׁ וְתִשְׁעִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֹ֖ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃
5:30 After the birth of Noah, Lamech lived 595 years and begot sons and daughters.
5:30 And Lamech lived after he begot Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begot sons and daughters.
ה׳:ל׳ וַחֲיָא לֶמֶךְ בָּתַר דְּאוֹלִיד יָת נֹחַ חֲמֵשׁ מְאָה וְתִשְׁעִין וַחֲמֵשׁ שְׁנִין וְאוֹלִיד בְּנִין וּבְנָן:
ה׳:ל"א וַֽיְהִי֙ כָּל־יְמֵי־לֶ֔מֶךְ שֶׁ֤בַע וְשִׁבְעִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ (ס)
5:31 All the days of Lamech came to 777 years; then he died.
5:31 And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years; and he died.
ה׳:ל"א וַהֲווֹ כָּל יוֹמֵי לֶמֶךְ שְׁבַע מְאָה וְשַׁבְעִין וּשְׁבַע שְׁנִין וּמִית:
ה׳:ל"ב וַֽיְהִי־נֹ֕חַ בֶּן־חֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֣וֹלֶד נֹ֔חַ אֶת־שֵׁ֖ם אֶת־חָ֥ם וְאֶת־יָֽפֶת׃
5:32 When Noah had lived 500 years, Noah begot Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
5:32 And Noah was five hundred years old; and Noah begot Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
ה׳:ל"ב וַהֲוָה נֹחַ בַּר חֲמֵשׁ מְאָה שְׁנִין וְאוֹלִיד נֹחַ יָת שֵׁם יָת חָם וְיָת יָפֶת:
ו׳:א׳ וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּֽי־הֵחֵ֣ל הָֽאָדָ֔ם לָרֹ֖ב עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה וּבָנ֖וֹת יֻלְּד֥וּ לָהֶֽם׃
6:1 When men began to increase on earth and daughters were born to them,
6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
ו׳:א׳ וַהֲוָה כַּד שְׁרִיאוּ בְנֵי אֱנָשָׁא לְמִסְגֵּי עַל אַפֵּי אַרְעָא וּבְנָתָא אִתְיְלִידוּ לְהוֹן:
ו׳:ב׳ וַיִּרְא֤וּ בְנֵי־הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת־בְּנ֣וֹת הָֽאָדָ֔ם כִּ֥י טֹבֹ֖ת הֵ֑נָּה וַיִּקְח֤וּ לָהֶם֙ נָשִׁ֔ים מִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּחָֽרוּ׃
6:2 the divine beingsaOthers “the sons of God.” saw how beautiful the daughters of men were and took wives from among those that pleased them.—
6:2 that the sons of nobles saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives, whomsoever they chose.
ו׳:ב׳ וַחֲזוֹ בְנֵי רַבְרְבַיָּא יָת בְּנַת אֱנָשָׁא אֲרֵי שַׁפִּירָן אִנוּן וּנְסִיבוּ לְהוֹן נְשִׁין מִכֹּל דִּי אִתְרְעִיאוּ:
ו׳:ג׳ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֗ה לֹֽא־יָד֨וֹן רוּחִ֤י בָֽאָדָם֙ לְעֹלָ֔ם בְּשַׁגַּ֖ם ה֣וּא בָשָׂ֑ר וְהָי֣וּ יָמָ֔יו מֵאָ֥ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים שָׁנָֽה׃
6:3 The LORD said, “My breath shall not abidebMeaning of Heb. uncertain. in man forever, since he too is flesh; let the days allowed him be one hundred and twenty years.”—
6:3 And the LORD said: ‘My spirit shall not abide in man for ever, for that he also is flesh; therefore shall his days be a hundred and twenty years.’
ו׳:ג׳ וַאֲמַר יְיָ לָא יִתְקַיַם דָרָא בִישָׁא הָדֵין קֳדָמַי לְעַלָם בְּדִיל דְאִנוּן בִּשְׂרָא וְעוֹבָדֵיהוֹן בִּישַׁיָא אַרְכָא יְהִיבַת לְהוֹן מְאָה וְעַשְׂרִין שְׁנִין אִם יְתוּבוּן:
ו׳:ד׳ הַנְּפִלִ֞ים הָי֣וּ בָאָרֶץ֮ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵם֒ וְגַ֣ם אַֽחֲרֵי־כֵ֗ן אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָבֹ֜אוּ בְּנֵ֤י הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־בְּנ֣וֹת הָֽאָדָ֔ם וְיָלְד֖וּ לָהֶ֑ם הֵ֧מָּה הַגִּבֹּרִ֛ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר מֵעוֹלָ֖ם אַנְשֵׁ֥י הַשֵּֽׁם׃ (פ)
6:4 It was then, and later too, that the Nephilim appeared on earth—when the divine beings cohabited with the daughters of men, who bore them offspring. They were the heroes of old, the men of renown.
6:4 The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of nobles came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them; the same were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown.
ו׳:ד׳ גִּבָּרַיָּא הֲווֹ בְאַרְעָא בְּיוֹמַיָּא הָאִנּוּן וְאַף בָּתַר כֵּן דִּי יַעֲלוּן בְּנֵי רַבְרְבַיָּא לְוַת בְּנַת אֱנָשָׁא וִילִידָן לְהוֹן אִנוּן גִּבָּרַיָּא דִּמֵעָלְמָא אֱנָשִׁין דִּשְׁמָא:
הגבורים. לִמְרֹד בַּמָּקוֹם:
ו׳:ה׳ וַיַּ֣רְא יְהוָ֔ה כִּ֥י רַבָּ֛ה רָעַ֥ת הָאָדָ֖ם בָּאָ֑רֶץ וְכָל־יֵ֙צֶר֙ מַחְשְׁבֹ֣ת לִבּ֔וֹ רַ֥ק רַ֖ע כָּל־הַיּֽוֹם׃
6:5 The LORD saw how great was man’s wickedness on earth, and how every plan devised by his mind was nothing but evil all the time.
6:5 And the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
ו׳:ה׳ וַחֲזָא יְיָ אֲרֵי סְגִיאַת בִּישַׁת אֱנָשָׁא בְּאַרְעָא וְכָל יִצְרָא מַחְשְׁבַת לִבֵּהּ לְחוֹד בִּישׁ כָּל יוֹמָא:
ו׳:ו׳ וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם יְהוָ֔ה כִּֽי־עָשָׂ֥ה אֶת־הָֽאָדָ֖ם בָּאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּתְעַצֵּ֖ב אֶל־לִבּֽוֹ׃
6:6 And the LORD regretted that He had made man on earth, and His heart was saddened.
6:6 And it repented the LORD that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart.
ו׳:ו׳ וְתַב יְיָ בְּמֵימְרֵהּ אֲרֵי עֲבַד יָת אֱנָשָׁא בְּאַרְעָא וַאֲמַר בְּמֵימְרֵהּ לְמִתְּבַר תָּקְפְּהוֹן כִּרְעוּתֵהּ:
ו׳:ז׳ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֗ה אֶמְחֶ֨ה אֶת־הָאָדָ֤ם אֲשֶׁר־בָּרָ֙אתִי֙ מֵעַל֙ פְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה מֵֽאָדָם֙ עַד־בְּהֵמָ֔ה עַד־רֶ֖מֶשׂ וְעַד־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם כִּ֥י נִחַ֖מְתִּי כִּ֥י עֲשִׂיתִֽם׃
6:7 The LORD said, “I will blot out from the earth the men whom I created—men together with beasts, creeping things, and birds of the sky; for I regret that I made them.”
6:7 And the LORD said: ‘I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and creeping thing, and fowl of the air; for it repenteth Me that I have made them.’
ו׳:ז׳ וַאֲמַר יְיָ אֶמְחֵי יָת אֲנָשָׁא דִּי בְרֵאתִי מֵעַל אַפֵּי אַרְעָא מֵאֱנָשָׁא עַד בְּעִירָא עַד רִיחֲשָׁא וְעַד עוֹפָא דִּשְׁמַיָּא אֲרֵי תָבִית בְּמֵימְרִי אֲרֵי עֲבַדְתִּנוּן:
ו׳:ח׳ וְנֹ֕חַ מָ֥צָא חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ (פ)
6:8 But Noah found favor with the LORD.
6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
ו׳:ח׳ וְנֹחַ אַשְׁכַּח רַחֲמִין קֳדָם יְיָ:
